MONTECCHIO MAGGIORE
It is a very bitter victory that sees Giorgione finally beat Montecchio but exit the Cup, stopping one step away from a final that for the whole return match really seemed to be within reach. Esposito’s team was called to a real undertaking, because only by beating with a difference of three goals (or two, but scoring at least three) could they overturn the first leg 3-1. The red and white have tried, but this 1-0 does not allow to remove any tickets. Pace’s goal, arrived when there were really too few minutes to go until the end of the match, has the distinct flavor of a joke. Before then Giorgione had played the entire game, without saving energy on a field that was at the limit of practicability due to the large amount of water that fell over Montecchio. The dream really seemed to be able to materialize towards the end of the first half, when from a scrum situation the ball seemed to have crossed the white line of the goal. It seemed like a goal and the players had already begun to raise their arms to the sky, when it became clear that the ball had not entered the ball in the slightest. And little did the protests of the bench and the players on the field serve: we remained at 0-0, with the awareness that the time needed to score the three goals necessary for the final was getting smaller and smaller. Now Giorgione can only think about Sunday’s match against Scardovari, a head-and-tail that could prove to be of essential importance. By winning against the bottom of the table, the red and white could take advantage of the direct clash between Arcella and Borgoricco to get closer to the big dream. –
