The Füchse Berlin remain ahead in the handball Bundesliga. They put in a confident performance against Erlangen. Next weekend there will be a showdown with the big competitor for the championship title.

The Füchse Berlin have defended their lead in the handball Bundesliga. A week before the top game against direct rivals SC Magdeburg, the capital city team won against 14th place in the table in front of 8,503 spectators in the Max-Schmeling-Halle. HC Erlangen with 39:32 (20:15). The best Berlin throwers were the once again outstanding Mathias Gidsel with 14 and Hans Lindberg with eight goals.

The hosts were wide awake from the start and worked very attentively, especially in defense. After just four minutes they were 5-1 ahead. The Foxes repeatedly scored easy goals through quick counterattacks. The guests seemed overwhelmed in this phase and hardly found any solutions against Berlin’s fast-paced game.

Comeback from Wiede

After almost 19 minutes, national player Fabian Wiede celebrated his comeback after a five-month injury break. Shortly afterwards the Foxes pulled away to 16:8. In the 25th minute, Nikolai Link also saw a red card after a hard foul on Lasse Andersson. Despite this weakening, Erlangen was able to shorten the score a bit before the break.

After the break, the Foxes found it more difficult to attack. Andersson also received a controversial red card after 35 minutes. The Franconians came back to 28:32 eight minutes before the end. But the home team stayed calm, improved and ultimately achieved the victory with confidence.
