In the relationship between aesthetics, substance and electrified engines, the new Honda HR-V is born: Hev, the compact SUV of the Japanese company presented in national preview at the Milan Design Week. “A project in which design and technology go hand in hand, as always in the case of Honda, focusing on harmony for the driver and passengers” said Kota Hagiwara, who for the Tokyo brand is creative director of the research and development team. in Europe.

HONDA HR-V and: HEV: HOW IT’S MADE

In terms of style, the new Honda HR-V e: Hev mixes harmonious lines and recognizable details, starting with the front grille, characterized by thin and horizontal elements, which includes the brand of the Tokyo house. The side features large wheel arches to accommodate 18-inch alloy wheels and small glass surfaces, while at the rear the LED lights trace a straight line that connects seamlessly to the side beltline. Details in dark color, from the exterior mirrors to the lower profiles of the bumpers, help to bring out the lines and volumes of the Japanese SUV. “They increase in size compared to the previous generation – added Kota Hagiwara -, but the idea behind this project was to maintain the design of an SUV coupé, paying particular attention to the significant reduction in materials consumed and the energy required in production. of this car ”.

HONDA HR-V and: HEV: THE POWERTRAIN AND THE COCKPIT

The new Honda HR-V e: Hev (the acronym embodies the concept of a full Hybrid car) will be available in the course of 2022 with the electrified powertrain that uses two electric motors, one used as a generator and the second dedicated to traction, combining them with a i-Vtec 1.5-liter petrol unit, capable of delivering 131 Hp overall (already used for the recent Honda Jazz model), a powertrain that automatically selects the best driving mode among those available: 100% electric , hybrid or petrol. The prices and the equipment of the car have not been communicated at the moment. The interior spaces of the new Honda HR-V e: Hev are rational, based on the concepts of technological development and overall comfort. The dashboard is dominated by the digital dashboard and the 9-inch central screen, but the physical buttons do not disappear completely, for example for the controls that allow you to manage the climate control. The compact SUV also mounts at the rear the seats defined as “magic”, with splitting in the 60/40 ratio and above all the possibility of being able to recline them – downwards or upwards – in order to modulate the load space according to needs.

HONDA: COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

Concepts, those of eco-compatibility, which emerged several times during the Milanese presentation of the new Honda HR-V model and: Hev, during the “Our Future” event. In fact, Honda’s goal is to achieve zero environmental impact by 2050, both in terms of the production of the cars and for the whole of the company’s activities. Recipe? It is based on three cornerstones: zero carbon dioxide emissions, use of carbon-free energy, and the use of only sustainable materials as they are recyclable. “In addition to electrification, we will promote the use of hydrogen in addition to electricity, to further expand the use of renewable energy – the words of Hagiwara -. We will push research into material recycling, including the reuse of batteries, and we will face the challenge of developing products made from 100% sustainable materials ”. A reduction that will also affect the total number of components needed to build a car, today around 30,000 units.
