Horacio Pagani: this is how his hypercars are born

by admin

For the Gazzetta Motori Days, Horacio Pagani opened the doors of his studio-laboratory-factory to us, the place where custom-built cars are born that blend performance, style, refinement and exclusivity

Pagani Automobili is synonymous with pure emotion. Performance derived from the most extreme engineering solutions, combined with the exclusivity conveyed by the accuracy of craftsmanship. On the occasion of the Gazzetta Motori Days, Horacio Pagani, the man who as a child dreamed of building the most beautiful car in the world, opened the doors to the place where his legendary hypercars are born.

Grandmother

Horacio Pagani awaits us in an area of the homonymous museum where the replica of his first workshop is set up, a small area of 8 meters by 10 in which the first concepts he built are scattered. The visit continues in the large room where the hypercars are exhibited, starting with the concept called “the grandmother”, the first driving car signed by Pagani. “We had little development money and we used her to do everything. We started with a 400 hp engine with which we traveled a million kilometers. For my birthday they completely restored it and gave it to me with the inscription Zonda La Nonna ”.

How did the Pagani dream come about?
“The idea of building cars in Modena was a dream I had ever had since I lived in Argentina. I was born in the Pampa, where there is no automotive culture, I inquired through magazines in which supercars such as Ferrari were talked about, and they all had the same common denominator, that is Modena. From there the dream of coming to build cars in Modena was born, but I was really a kid. “

How are beauty and elegance reconciled with the most extreme performance and engineering solutions?
“Surely they are disciplines that often walk on parallel tracks and to solve problems you need will and curiosity. The arm of a suspension, for example, is a purely technical element, but if it is also done aesthetically beautiful it almost assumes a double function, that is that of supporting the wheel and being pleasing to the eye. This has been the most complicated aspect in the path taken so far, that is to transmit this type of mentality to the designers and engineers who came to work here. “

How is the concept of a car born? What is the philosophy that inspires the design?
“One of the goals of design is to improve the quality of life. We start from the principle of creating something that people like, not necessarily us. Designers, mechanical and electronic engineers, experts in special materials, here all live together in the same environment. The same where ideas have been developed for years, once only on paper, while today we are facilitated by technology, by the number of employees, by greater resources ”.

Is the relationship with your cars lived with passion, but without being overwhelmed by emotions?
“I am very critical with my cars, I do my job with passion, but I don’t fall in love with such technical objects, it could make me lose objectivity”.

So Pagani, what is it for you?
“There are now two Pagans. One is Horacio Pagani, the other is Pagani Automobili and they often meet. It is always a challenge and rewarding to have a wealth of customers who are exquisite people, from whom there is a lot to learn. The Pagani is a journey, the journey of a lifetime made up of beautiful experiences, beautiful people met and beautiful cars “.
