Wheelchair tennis. The Frenchman wins both singles and doubles in Alghero
ALGHERO. In the name of Houdet. The 21st edition of the Sardinia Open International-Uniqlo Wheelchair Tennis Tour, valid as the “Tavoni Trophy”, sponsored by the Regional Tourism Department, under the aegis of the Italian Tennis Federation and the Italian Paralympic Committee, played on the green set courts of the Tc Alghero, ended with a double by the French expert, who posted the eighth trophy in singles (beating in two sets, 6-4, 6-3, the compatriot Peifer) and the seventh in doubles (with the Peifer himself, against the Spaniards Caverzaschi and De La Puente for 6-3, 6-3).
In the women’s singles, however, it is the first time of the Colombian Bernal, who beats Shuker 7-5, 6-2 in two sets. The British, who had won the double the day before together with the Chilean Cabrilllana, sees the singles title slip away from her hands, as already happened in 2006, after a balanced match in the first game but which, gradually, slipped towards the Colombian , more regular in play.
Among the Quads, what happened in the men was repeated, with two athletes who won the doubles together and then faced each other in singles. Dutch Vink won, who did not suffer from the game of Australian Davidson.
Italian victory in the Second Draw, with Angelo Romano (standard bearer of the Sardinia Open, the organizing association of the event), who gave no escape to the Danish Mads Meyer, winning with a double 6-4.
