The Edmonton Oilers lost to the strong Minnesota Wild in the North American professional ice hockey league NHL despite an offensive spectacle.

The Oilers lost 2:4 (0:1, 1:0, 1:3) on Friday (February 23, 2024/local time). Visiting goalkeeper Filip Gustavsson saved 41 shots on goal, and Matt Boldy scored twice for Minnesota.

The German ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl scored the equalizer on a power play in the middle third after Boldy had put the Wild in the lead in the first, still balanced third. The German international once again got his 28th goal of the season from his congenial strike partner Connor Mc David.

In the final third, both were involved in the second Oilers goal by Zach Hyman, who scored his 35th goal of the season after a Draisaitl shot. However, Minnesota was the more efficient team and prevailed against the onrushing Oilers in the final third.

After the sixth win from the last eight games, Minnesota has its eyes on the playoff places again, two points behind the last wild card spot in the Western Conference. The Oilers remain in sixth place in the West.

Sabers and Peterka maintain minimal playoff chances

The Buffalo Sabers around JJ Peterka, who won 2-1 at the Columbus Blue Jackets, still have minimal hopes for the playoffs. Peterka remained without a goal.

Blackhawks with fewest points

However, the season has ended for Lukas Reichel and the Chicago Blackhawks, who are now the team with the fewest points in the league. The team lost 3-2 after overtime against the Winnipeg Jets without Reichel; it was the ninth defeat in the last ten games for Chicago. Reichel was sent to the Rockford IceHogs farm team in the AHL last week.
