With one less pawn and one that cannot be used immediately at full strength, both in the same role and both Italian, it is reasonable to think that in the Imoco Conegliano house there are also arguments in terms of usable sextets. Sarah Fahr will be operated on in Rome in the next few days by Professor Mariani’s team at the Villa Stuart clinic: her anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee, broken, must be reconstructed after the injury she suffered in Zara during the penultimate match of the first phase of the European. In his place the coach Davide Mazzanti has summoned Alessia Mazzaro of Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri, already protagonist of the Vnl of Rimini at the beginning of the summer. The 19-year-old from Tuscany has been joined in these days by her family, with whom she has decided to spend as much time as possible, before the surgery and the long convalescence that awaits her. Then there is Folie, who is carrying out an individual preparation work, agreed with the Gialloblù staff: the goal is to return to the maximum within 18 weeks (i.e. just before Christmas, in the days of the Club World Cup), balancing, hopefully in a stable way, the situation of both knees, the operated one and the healthy one, which, however, has been overloaded.
The declared goal is the market and to find a worthy replacement for Fahr, who immediately became the protagonist in Daniele Santarelli’s schemes: there is time, in fact, for the entire regular season, but the intentions of the Conegliano executives are to find a solution within a few days, in order to insert the new arrival as soon as possible. The Imoco still has a place for foreigners to use (the maximum to be included in the scoresheet is 6), but it may have to deal with the rule that requires at least 3 Italians out of 7 (freest sextet) always on the field. Assuming a sextet with Butigan and De Kruijf in the center, chosen, at the moment, obligatory, Wolosz in direction and Egonu opposite, in the band there could be – inevitably – only one of the two Americans or, conversely, at least one between Sylla and Omoruyi; only with Gennari at the dribble could Plummer and Courtney be seen together, while it is indifferent that Frosini and Caravello, both Italian as Egonu and De Gennaro, enter the rotations.
The blanket, to date, is quite short, but there is no lack of stimuli. October starts with the bang of the Super Cup, which Conegliano has held for three seasons in a row, then there are 8 league games and the Champions League only at the end of November: by running in a row the panthers would enter the Guinness Book of Records, surpassing, once again, the Vakifbank which holds the record of 73 consecutive victories. The Imoco is 64 and certainly will not want to miss an unrepeatable opportunity, built over almost two years, including the pandemic. –
