There was a great desire for freedom and light, nature and colors among the almost 1,500 participants – 1,390 to be exact – who in the territories around Montalcino revived the spirit of the Eroica: dirt roads, vintage bicycles without technology, heavy cotton breeches and sweaters and a great desire to pedal together to start again.
The edition at the end of May therefore brought that philosophy of recovering the values and tradition of a territory that is a world heritage site back to the Sienese wine and gastronomy roads. “An act of love towards our land and a sign of responsibility towards future generations”, underlined Giancarlo Brocci, the creator of this event which is now replicated all over the world under the slogan: “The beauty of fatigue and the taste of the enterprise ».

A particular edition that marks the hoped-for return to normality in view of the resumption of the traditional edition as well, that of Gaiole in Chianti, scheduled for the first Sunday in October, for which the organizational machine has already started and which already leaves presage a full house after last year’s cancellation due to Covid19. In between there will be the Nova Eroica Buonconvento, the edition dedicated to gravels scheduled for July 17th.
But the edition of the restart, of the rebirth of a spirit that remains equal to itself, coincides with the definitive connection between the paths of Chianti and that of the Val d’Orcia, a unique path that unites the two territories with about 360 kilometers of roads, between the asphalted ones and the famous white roads that have become the symbol of the Eroica.
In addition, the route has expanded this year also outside the province of Siena with the encroachment in that of Grosseto, reaching the village of Seggiano, a thousand inhabitants on the slopes of Mount Amiata in the middle of a territory with a very high oil vocation. . Here the Dop guaranteed by the Consorzio Tutela Olio Seggiano Dop was born, which this year becomes the official Eroica oil with a partnership that finds the common value in the enhancement of the territory and tradition.
