People’s Daily Online, Beijing, December 14 (Wu Chaolan) In an exclusive interview with People’s Daily Online, Norwegian Ambassador to China Besina said that Norway will send a large delegation of more than 300 people composed of athletes and support personnel to participate in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
Besina introduced that Norwegian athletes will participate in a number of Winter Olympics including cross-country skiing, biathlon and alpine skiing. “During the Winter Olympics and Paralympics next year, most of the venues will show Norwegian athletes.” Besina said.
Besina is full of expectations for the upcoming Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. “At present, the Norwegian athletes are actively preparing for the competition. Norway is the country with the most medals in the Winter Olympics, and we hope to achieve good results in next year’s competition.”
The Winter Olympics is not only a stage for fair competition for athletes from all over the world, but also a platform for the whole people to share ice and snow sports. Besina said that in Norway, winter sports are national sports that almost everyone participates in. The holding of the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics will promote the popularization and development of ice and snow sports in China.
The Beijing Winter Olympics will help China complete its grand vision of “driving 300 million people to participate in ice and snow sports“. She said: “I hope that after the Olympics, more and more Chinese people will fall in love with winter sports including skiing.”
The Winter Olympics have narrowed the distance between China and Norway and provided an opportunity for the two countries to deepen cooperation in sports. In April 2017, the Chinese and Norwegian sports authorities signed the “Memorandum of Understanding on China-Norway Sports Cooperation.” Since then, the two sides have successively signed a number of exchange and cooperation implementation plans. Baisina pointed out that since 2017, the winter sports exchanges and cooperation between Norway and China have developed vigorously. As a strong country in ice and snow sports, Norway is a key country for China’s winter sports training cooperation. Many Chinese athletes in cross-country skiing, biathlon and ski jumping have gone to Norway to prepare for the competition and train with local athletes under the guidance of Norwegian coaches.
Baisina emphasized that the cooperation between Norway and China in winter sports vividly interprets the spirit of participation in the Olympic movement. “We hope that more countries will participate in ice and snow sports, and countries should exchange and learn from each other and work together.”
Sino-Norwegian relations have developed steadily and bilateral cooperation has broad prospects. Baisina said that in addition to winter sports, the two countries have carried out in-depth cooperation in the fields of economy, new energy and environmental sustainability, and achieved a series of fruitful results. She hopes that in the future, Norway and China can further develop exchanges and cooperation in social welfare.
