Inter Miami will not play the 2024 US Open Cup after confirming a new format

Inter Miami will not be competing in the US Open Cup this season, as confirmed by US Soccer in a new competition format announcement for the 2024 season. The decision was made to allow the team to focus on other competitions, particularly the Concacaf Champions Cup.

The US Open Cup will feature 96 teams from all levels of North American football, with only eight MLS teams participating with their first teams. Inter Miami will not be one of them, as their subsidiary team from MLS Next Pro will represent the club in the tournament.

The decision not to participate was also influenced by the desire to prevent fixture congestion for teams involved in the Concacaf Champions Cup. Only Houston Dynamo, as defending champions of the US Open Cup, will compete in both tournaments.

The US Open Cup 2024 tournament dates have been announced, starting with the first round on March 19 to 21 and concluding with the final on September 25. The format changes aim to make the competition more inclusive and competitive for teams across North America.
