Everything is ready at the Canoe Stadium in Ivrea which is preparing to host an important international canoe competition on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 April. This is the ICF (International canoe federation) Canoa Slalom International Race.

The Ivrea canal, for the occasion, has already been completely flagged with the flags of the nations present in the competition. It will therefore be a weekend that presents itself with an absolute level competition, with considerable numbers. In fact, there are two hundred and thirty members, representing seventeen nations and thirty-two clubs. For many athletes the race will also be a good opportunity to try their hand at the same route as the next European championships which will take place in Ivrea in May.

Some countries will be present with national teams and, for some of them, the tests will be valid as selections for participation in the European Championships, valid in turn as the last continental test for winning a place at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The only big regret will be that the prestigious sporting event will take place behind closed doors as required by national legislation and by the protocols of the Italian Canoe Kayak Federation and in strict compliance with all the rules, aimed at avoiding the spread of the infection from Covid 19.

The Ivrea canoa club will re-propose the organization already tested last year in September on the occasion of the Italian senior championships. The program includes two heats, starting at 9.30, which will be held on April 10, while for Sunday 11, starting at 9, a heat and a final, at the start of the Senior and Junior categories, K1 men, K1 women , C1 men, C1 women, C2 men.

At the end of the race there will be a traditional award ceremony which will take place inside the club following the strict protocol established by the Italian canoe kayak federation, obviously without public. Unlike the Europeans, there is no live streaming of the event. The classic route starts from the Pontetto and arrives at the “ruins of the Roman Major bridge”, length 210 meters, degree of difficulty III and IV. Playing at home the Ivrea canoa club as part of the international competition will field the entire competitive team in full force, under the orders of the technician Lorenzo Biasioli and his collaborators Davide Monguzzi and Francesco Cavo, therefore there could be over twenty athletes to descend in the water with excellent opportunities to perform well on the friendly channel. –
