CALGARY (Canada)
Two victories against Germany and Estonia, compared with eleven defeats. Italy closed the women’s World Cup in Calgary in Canada with this booty, finishing in penultimate place. Apparently a disappointing world championship adventure, but that’s not the case. The team coached by Violetta Caldart from Belluno and by technical commissioner Ulrik Schmidt was a very young team at their very first international experience. It was composed by three girls from Cortina registered with the Curling Club Dolomiti, namely Stefania Constantini, Marta Lo Deserto and Giulia Zardini Lacedelli, together with Angela Romei (Milan) and Elena Dami (Virtus Piemonte). We have seen an interesting growth and that is enough to look forward to autumn, when the Italians will play the places available at the Beijing 2022 Games in the Olympic challenge.
“The goal was to win at least one match,” says skip Constantini. “We did it by winning two. In the other matches, although from the final scoreboards they may seem like “big” defeats, in reality they weren’t completely: the constant of the “big end”, that is the hand in which the opponents score three or four points at once, he accompanied us in almost every match and this led to the consequent detachment of points. In fact we were forced to try harder pitches to try to recover. I think this is due to the team’s lack of experience and not always consistent performance, which is more than normal in a young team like ours ».
We said, the feelings for the future remain good. «We have great room for improvement, with a good starting point. Let’s go home after facing the strongest teams in the world. A lot has been learned, especially from the strategic point of view ».
