Stefano Velatta from Biella is the absolute winner of the forty-fourth edition of the 5 lakes foot race, held yesterday, Sunday 26 September. The runner of the Ligurian company Maratoneti Genovesi closed the 24.6 km trial with a difference in height of 440 meters, stopping the clock after 1h37’32 ”, behind Paolo Nota (Pomaretto running), who reached the finish line in the market square in Ivrea with a time of 1h’38’55 ”, while in third place Mikael Mongiovetto of the Polisportiva Sant’Orso Aosta, just one second behind Nota. At the start 261 starters, preceded by two Jolettas pulled by volunteers of the Runner Angels association, who also let those with disabilities try the race, who covered the 24.6 km of the route both in the city, in Ivrea (the first 3 km), as well as in the dirt road of the San Michele, Sirio, Pistono, Nero and Campagna lakes.

Velatta after being in second position, behind Michael Zagato of Cus Pro Patria Milan on the first pass at Montalto Dora, after about ten km of the race, he jumped to the lead at the passage of Pilone di Montresco, after 18 km and from that moment has never abandoned the first position, as he explains: «This was the fourth time I took part in the race that has always fascinated me. After an eighth, seventh and fourth place, finally the victory – comments Velatta – I am really happy, also because I had a lot of fun especially on the dirt road, the part of the race that I have always loved the most ». This is the absolute top ten: in fourth place Michael Zagato (1h41’00 ”, Cus Pro Patria Milan), then followed by Daniele Peano (1h41’59 ”, Atletica Fossano), Emanuele Coda (1h42’50 ”, Running Pont-Saint-Martin), Pietro Stefano Garbo (1h43’07 ”, CastleRun), Mathieu Courthoud (1h44’51 ”, Running Pont-Saint-Martin), Manuel Accurso (1h45’00 ”, Atletica Monterosa) and Giampiero Chiocchi (1h45’02 ”, Leinì running). In the women’s field, on the other hand, success for Stefania Pulici (1h53’52 ”) of the Brontolo Bike, then silver medal Maria Rosa Erario (1h58’11 ”, Team Peretti) and finally bronze Elisa Almondo (1h58’34 ”, Dragonero running). The pink top five is completed by Anna Caporusso, bearer of Avis Ivrea (2h04’07 ”) and Monica Moia of Podistica Bognanco (2h06’45 ”).

Satisfied with the event also the mayor of Ivrea, Stefano Sertoli: «A first taste of a return to normality – comments Sertoli – it was really very nice to be able to attend a historic race like the 5 lakes and see that the runners have given life to a race always very exciting, despite the drizzle that fell during the test ».
