Kitesurfing in the summer, where to do it in Sardinia? Here are the best places

by admin

In Sardinia there are several places to practice kitesurfing in the summer: here are our suggestions

The Sardinia, among other things, is the land of kitesurf. For various reasons, above all good weather and wind: in summer there can be thermal winds of up to 15/20 knots. When this happens, kitesurfing can be practiced with excellent consistency. But what are the best spots to go to in the summer season? We talked about it with Davide Calatri of KiteZone, a school located in Maddalena Spiaggia, a few minutes from Cagliari.

IT NORTH

We start from the assumption that, normally, in summer Sardinian beaches are obviously besieged by tourists: there are often dedicated spaces to be able to kitesurf in total safety, both for oneself and for others. The best known location is Porto Pollo, very popular with foreigners and famous above all for what it offers for tourism. What differentiates this spot from the others is in fact the context: in addition to the possibility of practicing kitsurf, in this location located in the north-east of the island (in front of the island of Spargi) you can spend an excellent time between the beach, bars and night clubs. It is the ideal solution for those looking for a fun-filled holiday as well as a sporty one. To the north is Badesi, close to Castelsardo, where a very strong mistral blows: when this happens, however, the sea becomes very prohibitive.

SOUTH

Going south, we find San Teodoro and La Caletta, with dedicated areas. And then we arrive at Maddalena Spiaggia: in addition to being excellent for kitesurfing, this location is a short walk from Cagliari. The tourist life of Porto Pollo is not comparable, but it is a more familiar solution that still allows you to have many possibilities at your fingertips. On the contrary, in fact, there are several more isolated spots, excellent for practicing kitesurfing but far from important inhabited centers: let’s think, for example, of Porto Botte and Punta Trettu, both in the municipality of San Giovanni Suergiu. Punta Trettu, in particular, is very interesting: it is a lagoon between the ferrous earth and the island of Sant’Antioco, which makes it excellent for kitesurfing.

THE RULES

In general, as far as kitesurfing is concerned, the south of Sardinia was discovered late compared to the north, but from a purely sporting point of view it has nothing to envy to other areas. The problem, in some spots, is the structures. As for the west coast, Mari Ermi near Oristano is worth mentioning. In general, it is important to keep in mind that you must inform yourself about the rules present in each location. In fact, the port authorities make ad hoc rules: it is a good habit to ask what are the rules to follow for each place where you want to kitesurf in Sardinia.
