Klinsmann towards dismissal, South Korea wants to fire coach – Football

After his surprise elimination from the Asian Cup in the semi-final defeat to Jordan, Jurgen Klinsmann’s hours as South Korea coach are numbered. Senior Football Association officials today recommended his dismissal, stating the need for a “change of management”, also in light of the frictions that involved some of the players.

“We have reached a consensus that Klinsmann can no longer serve as the national team coach for various reasons and that a change is necessary,” said Hwangbo Kwan, technical director and member of the national team committee within the Korea Football Federation. This committee is not a decision-making body, but will present its recommendations to the Executive Office of the South Korean Federation which will decide on the future of the 59-year-old German coach, who has been in office for a year.

At the end of a three-hour meeting, during which Klinsmann spoke via video conference according to Yonhap News Agency, Hwangbo said the committee assessed that Klinsmann’s “tactical preparation had not been up to the task” during the Cup of Asia.
