Lampedusa, 30 June 2021 – One more tragedy of the sea. Still dead in yet another journey of despair. Five migrants died in the shipwreck of a barge occurred approximately 5 miles from Lampedusa. The boat on which they traveled – according to the first testimonies – would be overturned and many of those on board ended up in the sea.
Rescuers have rrecovered 48 survivors, for five there was nothing to do: they lost their lives. Both the survivors and the bodies have already been brought to Favarolo pier where they are going to disembark. On the spot, there is the police who will now try to reconstruct the dynamics of the tragedy.
Yesterday in Lampedusa they were 4 landings registered. The last was that of a small boat with 18 people on board, including 5 women. Also for them, after a first health triage at the Favaloro pier, the transfer to the hotspot of the Imbriacola district was arranged, where before them 12, 65 and 41 migrants were conducted respectively, including 36 women and 11 minors, of whom three unaccompanied. In a few hours, 136 migrants arrived on the largest of the Pelagie Islands.
