L’Eroica arrives in the Unesco hills of Treviso: nature and effort, cycling becomes poetry

An experience of pleasure with the gravel bike, faithful to the non-competitive spirit but for those who want there will be short timed sections.

SUSEGANA. Less than a month e the Eroica will also arrive in Veneto.

Sunday 1st May in the evocative hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, Unesco Heritage, there will be the first edition of the Nova Eroica Prosecco Hills, an international cycling event dedicated to modern bikes. Three paths in program for over 250 km in total in the most evocative places of the 12 municipalities of the area, with the starting and ending point of the Borgoluce estate in Susegana, which for the occasion opens its doors to everyone for a great festival that will start on Friday 29 April and which will have its fulcrum on Saturday 30.

There are already 700 members from over 20 countries, some even overseas, and the aim is to increase the value of the territory and to import and implement the values ​​that distinguish the Eroica.

The basic idea is of revive cycle tourism and to give an international breath to the Marca Trevigiana: this was in mind Lodovico Giustiani, administrator of Borgoluce, and François Droulers, owner of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Venice – North in Mogliano Veneto. Hence the meeting with Nicola Rosin, president of Eroica Srl and the agreement to bring the brand to the Unesco Heritage Hills.

In addition, the Nova for the first time it leaves Tuscany to land in Veneto and represents an “upgrade” of the Eroica phenomenon that has given way to a cultural movement that has changed the way of living and perceiving cycling, to the point of embracing modern bikes and in particular gravel bikes.

“I am a wine producer and Droulers is a hotelier, two entrepreneurs from different sectors but united by the desire to enhance the territory, the tourist offer and local products – he explains Giustiniani, president of the organizing committee – To do this we need events that can create quality and our idea is married with Eroica. There was a lot of effort, the help of Aldo Zanetti was invaluable and the satisfaction has already paid off. I have seen enthusiasm from local authorities, administrations, communities and entrepreneurs, and there is a lot of involvement even for those who are not fond of cycling or do not know the Eroica. I would like that when you think of the Nova Eroica Prosecco Hills you think of our Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, of our excellent Prosecco Superiore product: the purpose is not the event itself but to enhance the territory ».

The co-creator of the Droulers event he also illustrates the benefits of the initiative: «Events, especially if they are repetitive, are an extraordinary engine for the tourist development of destinations. One Sunday Giustiniani and I met in Borgoluce, we saw how the Eroica generated a tourism of 700,000 passengers a year in Tuscany and this example was right for us. There will be a return, first of all, for the part of the Conegliano and Valdobbiadene Hills and the Treviso Nord area but this is only the beginning because Treviso and Prosecco will become international destinations ».

The satisfaction is above all of the president of Eroica Srl, Nicola Rosin: “This is theperfect opportunity to bring the Eroica to Veneto and I say it as a Paduan. One Eroica mantra is to start with people and then decide what to do. It all started with a meeting with Giustiniani and Droulers, there was alchemy right from the start and the experience accumulated in organizing events even outside of Tuscany was useful to us. Starting out as a vintage bike race, Nova Eroica is a pleasure experience with the gravel bike: we remain faithful to the non-competitive spirit but for those who want there will be short timed sections. In addition to the landscape similarities between Tuscany and the Conegliano and Valdobbiadene Hills, Susegana is a perfect hub because it is in the center of the North-East. We have been working for a year, registrations have been open for six months and the only doubt is the weather: the heroics, however, ride their bikes even in the rain ».

THREE ROUTES

The Via dei Castelli, the Via dei Laghi and the Via dei Vigni Eroici

For cyclists and enthusiasts, the Nova Eroica Prosecco Hills – arriving in less than a month – offers three routes, all different in terms of distance and landscape, designed in search of swhite trades, unusual views and spicy climbs: the “locals” will be surprised and foreigners will be amazed, and not only for fatigue.

The “Via dei Castelli” it is a shorter journey than 50 km and 700 meters of elevation gain which starts from Susegana to get to Collagù, passing through the most evocative places of Refrontolo, Farra and Pieve di Soligo. The route, recommended for those who are expert in gravel and have an excellent training behind them, takes place mostly on a paved road and is suitable for all skill levels.

For those who want to go further, but not too much, there is the 93 km “Via dei Vitigni Eroici” which takes cyclists to Valdobbiadene and into the heart of the Prosecco Hills. The altitude difference is almost 1,500 km and the route is characterized by continuous ups and downs and long stretches of unpaved road.

Finally, there is the breathtaking “Via dei Laghi ”of 120 kilometers between lakes, mountains, vines and views up to Vittorio Veneto. 2,360 meters in altitude for the more adventurous who want to put their heart, lungs and legs to the test with a demanding climb towards the Rolle area, not before passing through Valdobbiadene in this case as well.

THE ORGANIZATION

Not just sport and athletes: a village for families and the great Borgoluce party

An event of the territory for the territory. The Nova Eroica Prosecco Hills is an initiative that leverages involvement of the local community and that he does not only dedicate himself to cycling, on the contrary it is a set of values ​​that are expressed at the most by Festival which will be staged, in particular, on Saturday 30 April on the Borgoluce di Susegana estate.

With the frame of the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, Unesco World Heritage Site, they will be set up initiatives that involve families of the territory but also those who, intrigued, decide to spend a day out of town in the heart of the Marca.

“Nova Eroica Prosecco Hills creates value and quality, it is a movement that goes beyond sport and that brings values, which wants to enjoy the beauty and the good – he explains Lodovico Giustiniani – preparations will take place on Friday 29 April with the arrival of those who will compete in the three races on Sunday, while on Saturday a village will be set up with friends and sponsors of the Eroica to create a real party. From the morning it will begin a series of events and we will start with the involvement of the little ones with the traffic police who will hold road education for school pupils on two wheels and then there will be games and entertainment. In the afternoon, two trips are planned: the Eroica Family is dedicated to families who want to test themselves and have fun along a path of 20 km, equipped with a normal bicycle or e-bike, with a stop to have a snack in company in a meadow; with fans of the Eroicainstead, we will tread 30 km and we’re going to do the muro of Ca ‘del Poggio and in this case we could have a snack with a few glasses of Prosecco, remaining consistent with the spirit of the event which also has the purpose of making local products known. During the afternoon there will be music and an aperitif until the evening. Sunday May 1sthowever, from noon there will be spit made by the Pro Loco. In short, we like to involve the territory and obviously the village is open to local people to meet and spend time in company ».

The words of the president of the organizing committee are echoed by those of co-creator François Droulers: “We have drawn up a series of events that are very inclusive because the Nova Eroica Prosecco Hills is not a competition for professionals but is an individual challenge and for families and therefore, the playful component and the experience of the territory of the Conegliano and Valdobbiadene Hills are fundamental ».

THE PROGRAM

Visits to cellars, an aperitif. Caffè Eroica and then the Family Party with spit and music

Nova Eroica Prosecco Hills is not just sport but a real festival that will take place at the Borgoluce estate in Susegana.

Furthermore, visits to the cellars – obviously by bike – meetings and presentations between art and food and wine.

Already on Friday 29 April the dances with linauguration of the Expo Village at 5 pm and, an hour later, the aperitif at the Caffè Eroica.

On Saturday 30, however, the day dedicated to everyone, children and adults: from 10 the Expo Village will be operational and there will be road education lessons for school children; at noon there will be the opportunity to have lunch at the Caffè Eroica with music and cocktails; in the afternoon, at 2.30 pm, there will be the departure of the Heroic Club Cycle with reinforced refreshments at Ca ‘del Poggio while at 3 pm the Eroica Family will start, an event dedicated to families who will be able to test themselves on a 20 km journey on a normal or electric bike; then until the evening music and aperitifs for those who want to reach Borgoluce.

Lastly, on Sunday 1st May there will be the departure of the cyclists involved in the three routes at 8 and from noon there will be the spit party and music. The awards ceremony will take place around 4.30 pm. –
