Life as a Carlo: on Prime Video the first TV series of Verdone – Magazine

Romano DOC class 1950, Carlo Verdone is one of the most loved cinema men in Italy and thanks to ‘Life as a Charles’ has signed his first TV series: it will be released in streaming Friday 5th November, its Amazon Prime Video and tells a story that flirts with Verdone’s real life. Including the time he was proposed to run for mayor of Rome.

‘Vita da Carlo’, all about the TV series

In fact, Verdone plays himself and the plot revolves around a filmmaker who would like to establish himself as a director of depth, but who struggles to find funding for films that are not light comedies and based on eccentric characters. On the private front, we find him struggling with a family life made of lights and shadows, some idiosyncrasies, small and great satisfactions and the infatuation for a beautiful pharmacist. Everything takes a surreal turn when he is proposed to run for mayor of Rome. A fact, the latter, which really happened a few years ago: according to some confidential polls, he would have been a politician much loved by his fellow citizens, but in the end he decided not to devote himself to the administration of the capital.

‘Vita da Carlo’ is a TV series directed and co-scripted by Carlo Verdone, who takes the opportunity to give fans a portrait of his most human and everyday clothes. To make them stand out in the best possible way, he relied on a valid cast of colleagues: for example Max Tortora, Anita Caprioli, Monica Guerritore, Antonio Bannò, Caterina De Angelis, Filippo Contri, Giada Benedetti, Maria Paiato, Claudia Potenza and Andrea Pennacchi.

Reviews and episodes

The first four episodes of ‘Vita di Carlo’ were premiered during the Rome Film Fest 2021 and therefore we know the response of the critics present at the Capitoline kermesse. In general it was positive, thanks to a polite and somewhat melancholy tone, and despite not always very centered gags and sometimes excessively marked acting. Overall, an unmissable event for those who appreciate Verdone.
The TV series consists of ten episodes which last thirty minutes each and are released on Amazon Prime Video starting November 5th.
