FC Juárez midfielder Diego ‘Puma’ Chávez tragically died in a car accident early this Wednesday, as reported by local press and confirmed by the team to TUDN. The 28-year-old, who was playing his third Liga MX tournament with Bravos, was involved in a fatal crash in his red compact car at around 1:00 a.m. at the intersection of Antonio J. Bermúdez streets and Vicente Guerrero Avenue.

The State Prosecutor’s Office of the Northern Zone of Chihuahua confirmed the death of the Veracruz-born soccer player, who made his debut in August 2015 for the Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz against Xolos de Tijuana. Chávez also played for the Rayos del Necaxa and the Diablos Rojos de Toluca before returning to FC Juárez for a second stint with the team.

His current team issued an official statement expressing their heartbreak over the loss and highlighting Chávez’s humor and character during his time with the club. They also posted a heartfelt message on social media, saying “Thank you, Puma, #13 will stay with us forever.”

Former teammate Carlos ‘Titán’ Salcedo also expressed his condolences, remembering Chávez for his joy and posting, “A lot of strength for his entire family! I will always remember you with that joy.”

“During his time at FC Juárez, Puma was characterized by his joy, enthusiasm, simplicity, and dedication to our colors,” the club’s statement read. “We are heartbroken by this unfortunate news, as today we have to say goodbye to a member of our great family.”

The entire FC Juárez community is mourning the loss of Diego ‘Puma’ Chávez, a talented midfielder and beloved teammate.
