Liverpool FC have strengthened their squad with Argentinian world champion Alexis Mac Allister. The 24-year-old midfielder arrives from league rivals Brighton and Hove Albion and has been handed a multi-year contract, the club announced on Thursday.
According to British media reports, Liverpool paid £55m (€63.98m) for the first transfer of new sporting director Jörg Schmadtke.
Liverpool before upheaval
Coach Jürgen Klopp’s team disappointed in the past season in the Premier League with fifth place and is facing a change. Mac Allister’s strong performance and ten goals helped Brighton finish just one place behind Liverpool in sixth and earn a European Cup spot for the first time.
Mac Allister has 16 caps to date and also played up to the 116th minute in the World Cup final which Argentina beat France on penalties in Qatar in December.
