Luca Polla

The nineteen year old from Caleipo will be in Barcelona over the weekend. “Unfortunately there are no training facilities in Belluno”

At 19, he is a professional freestyle scooter athlete. Regularly participate in European and even international level events.

Not surprisingly, on the weekend that is almost upon him he will be engaged in Barcelona at the world championships of this sport. He is considered one of the most talented specialists in this discipline.

So much so that a monster like Alvaro Dal Farra, someone who knows this kind of thing, defines him as “one of the strongest scooter riders in the world“.

His name is Luca Polla and he lives in Caleipo, in the municipality of Belluno. When asked “what is the scooter for you?” and “what would you like it to become?”, he replies that he does it “for passion and for fun”, but also as “a profession”.

How much has this passion blossomed?

«Five and a half years ago, in February 2016, when a friend of mine, Matteo Lo Cullo, invited me to Mel’s skate park. Having no other means than the bicycle, I got there from Belluno pedaling. Once I got there, I tried the scooter and in thirty minutes I was able to complete the first trick. That’s where it all started. And it is thanks to this friend of mine that I got to know this fantastic sport ».

In a relatively short time you reached the international scene of this discipline.

«In recent years», continues the nineteen year old from Belluno, «I have participated in many contests in Europe. The last was a week ago in Poland. I don’t consider myself one of the strongest in the world, honestly. But in fact I am an athlete at an international level. The first demonstration of a certain level in which I participated was in Holland, in The Hague. It’s called Pro Freestyle and I took part in it about a year and a half after starting. I arrived nineteenth. The last one I took part in, on the other hand, was just a week ago in Poland. I made it to the final but I couldn’t get on the podium. Usually, however, I participate in Street Jam, events in which we gather and from there we reach selected places in the city ».

Now, in Barcelona, another even more exciting challenge …

«I was invited to the“ Extreme Barcelona ”freestyle scooter world championship. They will be held at the parc de Fòrum from 24 to 26 September. Qualifying will start on Friday, then the semifinals on Saturday and the finals on Sunday. My goal? I would like to reach the semifinals, in the Street specialty which is the one in which I compete ».

Dreams in the drawer?

«I would like to publish a book of photos with all the places where you can practice this sport: only photographs, accompanied by the address. For a year, however, together with other riders, we have been working to make the scooter known in Italy through the creation of a video. Here, in fact, it is not particularly known to most … ».

And in Belluno?

«In Belluno there are no training facilities and this, unfortunately, is a limitation. In fact, ”he concludes,“ I never thought I’d reach this level. The closest skatepark is in Vittorio Veneto and I often have to go outside the region to train. Anyway, I have to thank my sponsors and especially my family for making me believe in myself. Without them all this would not have been possible ».
