ALTA BADIA (BOLZANO)

Stefano Stagni and Marta Maltha are the winners of the thirty-fifth Maratona dles Dolomites, the spectacular cycling race of 138 kilometers and over four thousand kilometers of altitude difference on the Dolomite passes.

Once again, at the foot of the most beautiful mountains in the world, the participation was very numerous, with almost seven thousand members of which 6180 men and 691 women, on a very hot and sunny day.

There were three routes that winded at the foot of the Dolomites and that we retraced some of the traits that have characterized the history of cycling. The departure was given yesterday morning at dawn in La Villa. Then the ups and downs between the Dolomite passes: Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella, Gardena, Falzarego, Giau and Valparola.

The Medium course (106 kilometers and 3130 meters of elevation gain) was won by Rossano Mauti in the men’s field and by Lisa De Cesare in the women’s field. Finally, the Sella Ronda (55 kilometers with an altitude difference of 1780 meters) went to Davide Ferrari among men and Milena Felici among women.

The occasion also represented a splendid postcard for the Dolomites: the Rai 2 cameras, in fact, guaranteed six hours of live broadcast, from 6 to 12 yesterday morning, following the race from the beginning until the arrival of the first classified of the long path. The long. On the men’s final podium, therefore Stefano Stagni triumphs in 4 hours and 27 minutes followed by Tommaso Elettrico in 4 hours and 29 minutes and by the Portuguese Goncalo Freitas in 4 hours and 30 minutes.

On the women’s front, the Dutch Marta Maltha repeats the victory obtained last year after finishing second three times, setting a time better than five minutes compared to the last victory.

“I can’t believe it, I’m so happy. Winning again on these roads is wonderful. I did not expect such a time, I was with Annalisa Prato and Martina Trevisol on Campolongo, on Pordoi, then on the Sella I made a void and I cycled in solitude to the finish. Magnificent”.

Maltha completed the long course in 5 hours and 12 minutes ahead of Martina Trevisol and Annalisa Prato.

Enthusiastic also Stagni who broke the delay on the Falzarego.

«I didn’t think I could win today», he declared at the end of the race, «but this morning I felt good. When I learned that the two treads were just over a minute ahead of me, I started pushing. And already on the descent of the Giau I began to believe in the possibility of an unexpected victory. On the Falzarego I made a difference and now here I am, at the finish line, with cramps everywhere. And total happiness ».

The other routes. On the middle course, men’s podium composed of Rossano Mauti, Marco Pastacaldi and Franz Wieser, women’s podium formed by Lisa De Cesare, Olga Cappiello and Valeria Curnis. Finally, winners of the Sella Ronda, Davide Ferrari, Federico Aicardi and Michael Hellweger among the men; Milena Felici, Laila Orenos, Elena Valentini among women.

The curiosity. The day was dedicated to the theme of flora and was marked by sustainability. In this sense, 16 thousand glass ceramic plates and reusable crockery were purchased, reducing the use of plastic by 70%. Meanwhile, the date of the next edition has already been marked on the calendar. It will be held on Sunday 2 July 2023 and will have as its theme Humanité, humanity. The best.
