Marcon sails the mythical challenge in Kenya on Safari

NAIVASHA (KENYA)

Alberto Marcon’s first experience in a world rally could not have been more exciting. He is the only one from Treviso to have left for the Safari Rally, the sixth stage of the Kenyan race. The Piedmontese Piero Canobbio, who moved to Kenya about thirty years ago after winning the A112 Trophy in 1983, will sail: «The idea was born when I was offered to race: I was hesitant, I had two races in Italy these days. I prioritized this after talking to my riders. It will be a great experience, a mythical race that returns to the world after 19 years. I am honored to have the opportunity to race it », says the navigator with a long experience in rally and cross country. Marcon boasts three Africa Eco Race, the race that takes place in January on the tracks that belonged to the African Dakar. It is unlikely that this baggage will come in handy in Kenya: «The bottom is different, the vegetation too. Here we have a lot of savannah and at the Africa Eco Race we have the desert. It doesn’t matter: it will certainly be an exceptional experience, ”he declares in seventh heaven. Yesterday the race started and they finished fifth in class, but 315 km of special stages remain to run before Sunday. –
