SALERNO – Salvatore Maresca, a talent from Stabia and a member of Gymnastics Salerno, is only now starting to metabolize what he did on the occasion of the European Artistic Gymnastics held in Basel, Switzerland. Third place and Bronze medal for Thor, the lord of the rings, able to return to Italy with a result as unexpected as it is deserved. The result is the result of the work that, albeit in a short time since it started only last February, has seen the athlete of the Salerno company among the protagonists of artistic gymnastics in the European context. Objective achieved also thanks to the commitment of the entire group, from managers to technicians to staff, of Gymnastics Salerno, in fact. «I just have to thank them because things are never done alone, but always with a great team behind us» declares after the bronze Salvatore Maresca, celebrated yesterday by his club.
What did this very important experience mean to you?
It was a fantastic experience, we first carried out a phase of preparation at the Federal Technical Center in Milan, the last step before qualification which came, however, last Thursday, when I brought home an excellent exercise. For a few days I experienced the magical atmosphere of the Basel building, beautiful to see. I had to be concentrated, not to get lost in colors and lights.
What was it like confronting the best gymnasts in Europe?
In truth I have not feared anyone. Lately I’ve been looking in the mirror to better understand myself. I arrived in the race, knowing that I had to compare myself with athletes who already had a lot of experience in these types of competitions: immediately after me, the Olympic champion got on the tool, the reigning European champion and the vice-champion were also in the race. European. I was, however, very sure of myself and of the work done in recent months, I have never seen myself inferior to others because if I got there, it was for a reason.
