New “leap” in history for Maria Costanza Moroni. On the occasion of the Trofeo delle Regioni Master on the track in Mondovì (Cuneo), the 52-year-old rider of the Ermenegildo Zegna sports group achieved the new world record in the SF50 category in the long jump with 5.48 meters, exceeding by 7 centimeters the one established in the 2010 by the Australian Marie Kay.

On August 12, she had had a strain on her right bicep. «I was training in Borgosesia because the Biella stadium was occupied by Turin – says the new world class record holder -. I stopped for about ten days: maybe it did me good to rest. I am tired, I have also lost weight. And to think that I didn’t even have to go ».
Athletics has always accompanied the life of Moroni, who in his palmares can boast three absolute Italian titles, several participations with the youth blue jersey and then continue with the Master activity, where he has slipped an incredible sequence of titles, including , just to list a few, the four golds and as many silvers collected at the World Championships, the three golds and two silvers at the Europeans, ending with two successes at the European Indoor Masters and five Italian records.
«I didn’t expect to hit that measure, especially at the first jump – he continues -. When they communicated the 5.48 to me I thought they had made a mistake in measuring. Apart from everything, perhaps even the third was equal to the first, but unfortunately nothing. I am really happy. The initial idea was to prepare the 300 obstacles, but failing to run with the necessary continuity, I fell back on long. My secret? I have fun, I go to the field with joy and I like to experience athletics like this. I would also like to thank the Mondovì staff, who are truly formidable ».
The blue then participated, together with Ferro, Ferrio and Strona in the 4×400 (always in the SF50 category), winning second place with a time of 4’35”80. Among the other prestigious results for the Biellese athletes, the success of Rosetta La Delfa (SF40 of the UGB) with 14’32”38 stands out on the 3000 meter walk. In the javelin, Mirko Melegoni’s 47.25 meters (SM35, Bugella Sport) earned him second place with the 800-gram tool.
Moroni would be enrolled in the individual Italian Masters Championships which start on Thursday in Rieti. «I should play the 80 and 300 obstacles, in addition to the long jump, but I will decide only tomorrow – he concludes -.
