Italy continues to reap successes at the Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria. With 25 medals (12 golds, 9 silvers and 4 bronzes) won today alone, Italy rises to 24 golds, 32 silvers, 25 bronzes for a momentary second place in the medal table behind Turkey. Here is the recap

BOXING

Rain of medals from blue boxing. Abbes Mouhiidine dominates the 91kg final over the Algerian Hamani 3-0 (split decision): the reigning European champion plays, has fun and entertains in a match without history. But Giordana Sorrentino thinks to open the dance, who in the 50kg beats the French Moullai 3-0 (30-27; 30-27; 30-18) demonstrating a great hold in a match with no holds barred. “Caterpillar” Federico Emilio Serra wins in 52 kg by knocking out the Moroccan Mortaji in just over a minute: a series of well-aimed blows lead the opponent to no longer be able to continue and the referee to interrupt the match. Silver for Assunta Campora in the 63 kg, overtaken by the Algerian Imane Khelife by 3-0 (27-30; 26-30; 25-30). As for Gianluigi Malanga in the 63 kg, also opposed to an Algerian, Yahia Abdelli: the match was interrupted in the second round due to an eyebrow injury. Abdelli, having won the first round (29-28) gets the victory of the match. To close the day in the ring, Vincenzo Fiaschetti’s silver in +91 kg, which he had to surrender to the Egyptian Yousry Hafez.

I SWIM

Sara Franceschi won the first gold medal in swimming in Oran 2022: the blue won the 400 medley medals in 4’40 “86 in front of the Turkish Deniz Ertan (+0.11) and the Spanish Alba Vazquez Ruiz (4’45” 63). Silver for Matteo Rivolta, second in the 50 butterfly in 23.59 behind the Portuguese (23 “38), and for Lorenzo Mora in the 100 backstroke in 54” 50 behind the Greek Evangelos Makrygiannis (54 “35). Too bad for the men’s 4×200 sl relay: Mattia Zunin, Luca De Tullio, Filippo Meglio and Alessio Proietti Colonna finish in front of everyone in 7’14 ”02, but are then disqualified for an irregular change. The gold thus goes to Greece.

ARCO

One gold, one silver and one bronze for archery Italy. Climbing on the top step of the podium is Federico Musolesi who, after winning the derby in the semifinal with the vice Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020 Mauro Nespoli, signs the feat by overcoming the Turkish Olympian Mete Gazoz in the final 6-4. Throughout the day there is an endless challenge with Turkey. In the team test the women’s blue team, made up of Tatiana Andreoli, Lucilla Boari and Chiara Rebagliati, yields to the Turks Yasemin Anagoz, Ezgi Basaran and Gulnaz Coskun for 5-3. As in the mixed team event, the super duo Lucilla Boari and Mauro Nespoli are forced to leave the gold in Turkish hands: Yasemin Anagoz and Mete Gazoz win 5-3. Third silver in a row for the Olympic bronze in Tokyo2020 Boari, defeated in the final by the Spanish Leyre Fernandez Infante 7-1 and took his third silver of the day.
