Mexico Defeats Paraguay 3-2 to Advance to Women’s Gold Cup Semifinals

In an exciting match on Sunday in Los Angeles, Mexico emerged victorious over Paraguay with a score of 3-2, securing their spot in the semifinals of the first Gold Cup of women’s soccer. The Mexican team will now face Brazil in the semifinals, while Canada will take on the winner of the United States vs. Colombia quarterfinal match on Wednesday.

Tigres’ midfielder Lizbeth Ovalle was the standout player of the game, scoring two goals in the 31st and 69th minutes. Karen Luna also contributed with a goal for Mexico in the 49th minute. On the other side, Camila Barbosa and Rebeca Fernández scored for Paraguay, with goalkeeper Esthefanny Barreras making a crucial penalty save against Jessica Martínez in the 51st minute.

Lizbeth Ovalle, also known as ‘La Maga’, leads the scoring table of the championship with five goals, tying with Canadian player Adriana León. Mexico, who caused an upset by defeating the United States in the group stage, now faces Brazil in the semifinals for a chance to advance to the final on March 10.
