by admin

It promises to be the largest multipurpose arena in Italy. An investment of 180 million euros, which will host the city events of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, and then a minimum of 120-130 events a year including sporting events, concerts, musicall and major events live. Risanamento and the German company Cts Eventim (international leader of entertainment and ticketing) presented, in Milan, the project for the construction of the new Msg Arena, which will be born in the Milan Santa Giulia area.

A milestone in a story that has had a long gestation, with the reclamation entrusted in June to Ati Suez Semp and the consensual termination of the agreement signed at the time with the Americans of Ovg for the construction and management of the Arena.

The project

EVD Milan, a company of the Cts Eventim group – listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange – will build the area on a building lot of 50 thousand square meters, with an outdoor area of over 10 thousand square meters for outdoor events and a capacity of up to 16 thousand spectators . The start of the construction site is scheduled for autumn 2022 and the project will require a total investment of approximately 180 million euros.
Based on the agreements signed in August between Cts Eventim and the design company that owns the area, Milano Santa Giulia (controlled by Risanamento), the arena, once completed, in autumn 2025 as planned, will initially be made available of the International Olympic Committee for the Games and, subsequently, Cts Eventim will continue to take care of the management of the venue.

The new arena will host hockey competitions for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games and later also events and concerts. «We have estimated to host between 130 and 200 events per year – said Klaus-Peter Schulenberg, CEO of Cts Eventim – during the press conference. It will be suitable for sporting and entertainment events. There will be lounges and restaurants. The acoustics will be an important element thanks to cutting-edge solutions and will be designed to guarantee all spectators an ideal view not exceeding a distance of 90 meters from the stage ». However, the key word of the project will be environmental sustainability. Not only will the structure be easily accessible by public transport (directly via tram from the Milan-Rogoredo high-speed station to the underground under construction that will connect the center with Linate airport), but “all investment will be focused on solutions of materials and construction techniques – explained the vice president of Eventim, Rainer Appel – aimed at minimizing CO2 emissions, powering the plant with photovoltaic and geothermal energy, with integrated waste reduction and recycling systems ».

The perspective after the Olympics

“The new arena – concluded Schulenberg – will be a must for all the most important tours and, through the four Italian promoters of our network of Eventim Live promoters, we will be able to offer prestigious events throughout the Milan area and well beyond. This represents a further extraordinary additional factor to our value chain ».
Cts Eventim, in addition to being the number 2 in the world for the issuance and sale of tickets for events, boasts extensive experience in the management of multifunctional arenas with capacities up to 20 thousand spectators, has in its portfolio the Tempodrom and the Waldbuehne of Berlin. In terms of turnover, Italy is Cts Eventim’s second most important market after Germany. In 2019, before the outbreak of the pandemic, the region generated 271 million in the ticketing and live entertainment segments. Overall, in 2019, it generated revenues of 1.4 billion euros, with 284 million euros of Ebitda and over 5 billion of capitalization. On the other hand, Schulenberg admits, for the sector, 2020 and 2021 are difficult: “due to the covid – explained the CEO of Cts Eventim – we suffered decreases in turnover, respectively, of 82% in 2020 and 65% in the course of this 2021. We estimate that the situation can normalize from spring 2022 ».
