Bologna, 19 March 2021 – First major appointment with Classic of spring: la data of March 20 is circled in red, with the Milan-Sanremo 2021, which after the anomalous 2020 season returns to its usual location. It is 299 kilometers up to the Ligurian coast, with a slight detour to the route due to a landslide that made it impossible to pass on Turchino. The usual ending remains with the Poggio springboard for the latest attacks.

Path

Of the total 299 kilometers, the first 100 and the last 112 are the traditional ones of the classic Milan-Sanremo route. We start in the lands of Coppi and Girardengo then, after Novi Ligure – the first 100 kilometers are flat – we proceed to the deviation to face the Colle del Giovo instead of Turchino, but the two climbs are similar: almost 6 kilometers with easy average gradients of 2.7% and a maximum of 8%. It will not decide the race. We then return to the Aurelia for the final race, which is the usual one between the provinces of Savona and Imperia. After Giovo there are 50 flat kilometers up to Alassio, from here begins the sequence of Capo Mele, Capo Cervo and Capo Berta, ending with Cipressa and Poggio. La Cipressa measures 5.6 kilometers with an average gradient of 4%, the Poggio, peak 6 from the finish, is 3.7 kilometers long with an average of 3.7% and a maximum of 8%. Those who want to avoid a sprint finish will have to start there.

As always, Sanremo lends itself to various finals, in fact the sprinters can win on a sprint finish, or the finisseurs with an attack on the Poggio. In the first case, look at the large batch of sprinters registered for the race, starting from Van Aert, passing through Sagan e Ackermann, Viviani and Demare, Bouhanni and Kristoff. For Italians, pay attention to Nizzolo, Bonifazio and Colbrelli. Obviously, runners cannot be excluded from classics, so Van der Poel e Alaphilippe again to duel after White roads, or Kwiatowski about Gilbert, who never won Sanremo. At home Italy they could try Bettiol and Nibali. Filippo will also be in the race Ganna.

TV schedules

It will run tomorrow Saturday 20 March, with paid live coverage on Eurosport 1, Sky channel 201, starting at 12.45, and streaming on Eurosport Player and Dazn. Live broadcast on national TV starting at 2 pm on Rai Due, streaming on Raiplay.it
