Monte Carlo, April 14, 2021 – Too strong Novak Djokovic per Yannik Sinner. On the red clay of Montecarlo, the Serbian won over the Italian in two sets (6-4; 6-2). Practice completed in an hour and 34 minutes for the number one in the ATP ranking, after returning from the abdominal injury of two months ago, who thus qualified for the round of 16 of the Rolex Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo. The very young South Tyrolean tennis player still comes out with his head held high, also receiving compliments from his opponent at the end of the match. “Yannik is in good shape, he played the final in Miami. Today I had to stay on track, without being distracted. I faced what is the future and perhaps also the present of this sport”, Djokovic’s investiture.
The match report
The match is balanced in the first set, with the two players brekkano and controbrekkano. In the sixth game, Djokovic places what appears to be the decisive thrust, snatching Sinner’s serve. Sinner, however, who answers with the usual coin in the ninth game. At 5-4 and with the possibility of impact, the 2001 class collects another break, which allows the rival to take the lead 1-0. Less fought in the second set. Djokovic goes 3-1 after the fourth break of his match. Sinner tries not to give up and in the seventh game he could shorten the distance by snatching the opponent’s serve, but he is not fooled and flies to 5-2. The match turns to the end credits and Djokovic closes the score at 6-2.
