Australian Remy Gardner burns team mate Raul Fernandez, who had dominated Moto2 at Mugello, on the last lap. Third was the Italian Marco Bezzecchi, “promoted” after the penalty to the American Joe Roberts

Total battle during the Moto2 in the Italian GP at Mugello, with the Australian Remy Gardner burning his teammate Raul Fernandez at the very last lap. Podium for Marco Bezzecchi, fourth at the finish line but “promoted” against Joe Roberts, penalized for having pinched the green on the last lap coming out of a corner.

nuanced domain

Raul Fernandez, sporty and disappointed after the arrival (“I can’t be happy after such a race”), had led the Moto2 race practically from the first lap, leaving everyone behind in the second part of the race, except for his teammate Gardner. Roberts and Bezzecchi had formed a second group which in effect then played the last place on the podium. The Australian had attacked on the last lap, taking a small margin but also preserved on the final straight, with Fernandez coming within centimeters thanks to the slipstream.

podium with yellow

Penalized Roberts, third in the sprint on Bezzecchi: so the Italian found himself on the podium and contained the gap from the top of the world championship. Fabio Di Giannantonio fell, Tony Arbolino seventh and Stefano Manzi tenth.
