Muchova is in a Grand Slam final for the first time

Karolina Muchova won the semifinals against Australian Open winner Arina Sabalenka (BLR/2) on Thursday. The 26-year-old unseeded Czech prevailed against the number two seeded Belarusian 7: 6 (7/5) 6: 7 (5/7) 7: 5 and is in a Grand Slam final for the first time in her career.

In the third set, Sabalenka, who hadn’t lost a set before the semi-finals, was already leading 5:2, but lost it and had to admit defeat to Muchova after 3:13 hours. In the final, the Czech meets either the defending champion Iga Swiatek (POL/1) or Beatriz Haddad Maia (BRA/14).
