The Denver Nuggets stop at 8 consecutive victories and are defeated in comeback by the Boston Celtics, found both defensively and temperamentally. In the opening match on Sunday, on the other hand, a success in Atlanta, without Trae Young and Danilo Gallinari, on the field of the Charlotte Hornets. Bogdan Bogdanovic’s 32 points are decisive.

Denver Nuggets-boston celtics 87-105

Great victory of the Boston Celtics on the field of the Denver Nuggets, which interrupts the streak of 8 consecutive successes. This time Nikola Jokic’s triple double was not enough to avoid the comeback of Jayson Tatum and his teammates, extraordinary in recovering 14 points of disadvantage (76-62) accumulated in the 3rd period with a formidable run of 31-3. A win from Boston Celtics, of the Boston Celtics.

nuggets

Denver has certainly not played the best game of the season and the absence of Jamal Murray (pain in his right knee) has created some difficulties in the attacking half. The bench gave very little and when it was engaged it favored the return of Boston, especially between the third and fourth period. The offensive blackout that ensued, eloquently represented by the 8 points scored in the last 12 ‘, canceled the men of coach Mike Malone from the field. The shooting percentages say 36.4% overall (32/88) and 23.5% from three (8/34). Nikola Jokic played “as an mvp” but this definition is now a bit narrow. In the 3rd quarter he kidnapped the game, dominating in attack, with points and assists, and rebounding. The Celtics defended hard on him, trying to get under his skin, but his talent proved superior to any containment strategy. His yet another triple double (17 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists), however, certainly has less significance without the team’s success. Besides Jokic, the other positive note for Denver is Facundo Campazzo. With Murray’s absence, in fact, the point guard has found a place in the quintet, ennobling the Denver game with his experience and, above all, with his talent. The Argentine (14 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds) in an NBA field is a marvel, even defensively. Not that there was any doubt. On the other hand, the performance of the other individuals is different. Michael Porter Jr. (22 points and 11 rebounds) finished with a double double but shot very badly from the field (9/23, 1/12 of three), while Aaron Gordon (7 points and 7 rebounds in 31 ‘) did not left its mark as in previous races.

pride

The Celtics took the “blows” with dignity and tried to stay in the game with the defense, versatile and physical in one on one and in the substitutions. It was not an easy race for Brad Stevens’ guys, both from a technical and an emotional point of view, but the desire to overcome their weaknesses was stronger. The character shown by Boston in this match is part of the DNA of this team and too often has failed during this regular season. The 31-3 run that changed the game between the third and fourth period is the result of the mentality of coach Stevens’ boys and their deep determination. This is what all Celtics fans want to see on the court every night, regardless of the final result. Jayson Tatum (28 points and 10 rebounds) and Jaylen Brown (20 points and 8 rebounds) climb above 20 points. Excellent contribution also for Robert Williams (10 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks) and, in general, for the whole bench. A very important victory for Boston, which could really give a positive shock to this season.

the match

After a 1st quarter dominated by Denver (27-16), Boston finds himself defensively and presents himself at the interval at -6 (51-45). Heavy for Stevens’ men 2/17 from the arc. In the 3rd period, the Nuggets try to stretch, led by Jokic’s 14 points, and find the +14 but the Celtics close in crescendo and bring the gap back to -5 (79-74). Tatum and his teammates then exploit the offensive blackout of the hosts, sweeping them away in the fourth period and also finding the maximum advantage (+18).

Charlotte Hornets-Atlanta Hawks 101-105

The Atlanta Hawks (29-25) brilliantly overcome the difficulties linked to the unavailable players (rotation reduced to 9 players) and beat the Charlotte Hornets (27-25), a team that preceded them in the standings before this game. The absences of Trae Young and Danilo Gallinari, made official one hour before the tap-off, did not prevent the boys of coach Nate McMillan from playing a coherent and strong-willed basketball, finalized in attack by an amazing Bogdan Bogdanovic (32 points with 8 / 16 from three), the first offensive option, and a very inspired Brandon Goodwin (17 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds) in the control room. It wasn’t an aesthetically beautiful game but the Hawks developed their basketball well aware of the difficulties they would encounter. In this regard, the experience and class of a player like Lou Williams (13 points and 4 assists), decisive in the final, and the “substance” of Clint Capela (20 points and 15 rebounds) are fundamental. After a first quarter with a dull color to say the least, especially in defense, the Hornets gradually recovered and found contact with the technical mood of the match. Without transitions and accelerations, the team of coach James Borrego conceptually does not exist. It was therefore important to benefit from the triples of Devonte ‘Graham (16 points, 5/12 from three, and 7 assists) and Terry Rozier (18 points, 4/9 from three, 6 rebounds and 4 assists), as well as dazzling excursions over the iron of Miles Bridges (23 points and 7 rebounds). His dunk on Capela’s head in the final part of the fourth period is perhaps the most beautiful and explosive of the whole season.

the match

Although the Hawks were also on +17 in the 1st quarter and managed the lead for a long time, the game came in substantial balance in the final. Charlotte found 101-99 at 2’14 ”from the siren but, subsequently, she was no longer able to score a basket. Capela and Williams (wonderful runner) led Atlanta to 103-101 with 58 seconds left. Bogdanovic’s 2/2 from the foul line, preceded by the error from Rozier’s arc, then put the Hawks’ success on ice.

Charlotte: Bridges 23 (9/17, 3/10 of three, 2/3 tl), Rozier 18, Graham 16. Rebounds: Zeller 9. Assists: Graham 7.

Atlanta: Bogdanovic 32 (9/22, 8/16 from three, 6/7 tl), Capela 20, Goodwin 17. Rebounds: Capela 15. Assist: Goodwin 8.
