[Epoch Times November 05, 2021](Epoch Times reporter Xiao Jie, Sydney, Australia) On Friday, Victoria and New South Wales fully opened their borders for the first time in six months. On the same day, the number of CCP virus (Wuhan pneumonia) infections in Victoria rebounded, with 1343 new infections and 10 deaths from the infection, including two people who were found to be infected during the Melbourne Cup horse race. They both received two vaccinations. Dose vaccine.

The Victorian Department of Health confirmed on Friday that there are currently 18,952 active cases in the state. A total of 634 infected people were hospitalized and 109 were in the intensive care unit, of which 73 needed ventilators. The average number of infections in 7 days was 681.

On Thursday, Victoria conducted 66,155 virus tests, and 14,255 people were vaccinated at the government’s vaccine center.

Currently, about 82% of eligible persons over 12 years old in Victoria have received two doses of the vaccine. The state is expected to reach 90% of its two-dose vaccination target around November 24.

Starting at 11:59 midnight on Thursday, Victoria and NSW will fully open their borders. This is the first time in six months in two states.

This week, the number of cases in Victoria has been below 1,000 for several days, which has not been seen since the end of September. But on Friday, the number of cases rose to more than 1,300.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Victorian Horse Racing Commission (VRC) has confirmed that two people who participated in the Melbourne Cup horse race were infected with the disease.

The Victorian Horse Racing Commission said a contract worker and a customer who worked on Flemington (Derby Day) and Melbourne Cup race days were found to be infected. Both of them received two doses of vaccine. There is no correlation between the two cases.

The contract workers infected with the epidemic worked there for two full days. Infected customers have been to bars in the Green Zone.

This year, bettors who have received two doses of the vaccine can watch the game on the spot, but the safe number is limited to 10,000.

Nancy Baxter, an epidemiologist at the University of Melbourne, said the two infected people may have a large number of contacts.

“This is absolutely worrying. This is a large event with a lot of people attending. People can sit, go in and out of the event, go to the bar, and so on.” She said, “So, obviously, people are worried about it, but I think this is just part of the fact that there are still many cases of infection in Melbourne, we are opening up, and it seems that we are doing this in a relatively safe way.”

The health department has contacted close contacts of the two cases and advised anyone else participating in the horse race to monitor their health and to be tested if they develop any symptoms.

The horse racing venue has been deeply disinfected and will reopen for horse racing on Saturday.
