Nicola Battain’s inspiration illuminates the sixty-first edition of the Foen Cup. Victory from Feltre yesterday in one of the Veneto and Italian youth cycling rankings, the Foen Cup, proposed yesterday by President Alfonso Scopel’s UC Foen.
Battain, from Gs Fonzaso, won the Allievi race, a test that saw many top athletes in regional cycling and a fierce patrol of young riders from Trentino at the start. It is a tough race for both the route (8.1 km route – to be repeated 9 times – which ran between via degli Alpini, Foen centro, via Facina, Via Sant’Anna, Viale Fusinato, Via Bagnol sur Ceze, via Bentivoglio, via P. San Martino, via Calzamatta, via Colli di Murle, via Vallina, via degli Alpini) and for the heat. Battain broke the delay on the penultimate lap, going to catch the fugitive, the Trentino Lorenzo Mottes, and then electrocute him in the sprint.
Battain thus conquers his first victory of the season and his first victory in the Allievi category (it is a first year) and leaves behind an unfortunate period, characterized by many falls, after having experienced a brilliant start to the season. The Gs Fonzaso, led by the president Fermino Lira and the sporting director Nico Maccagnan, enjoys the success of Battain but also the great performance of Riccardo Vettoretto, whose conduct of the race contributed so much to the success. In addition to the Allievi, who competed in the afternoon, the Foen Cup in the morning also saw the Beginners competing on the same circuit as the older ones (three rounds for those of the first year, four for those of the second).
In this case the successes bear the signatures of Brandon Fedrizzi from Trentino (first year) and Luca Vaccher from Treviso (second year). The Esordienti race also assigned the provincial champion’s jersey: Martin Gris, of Uc Foen, won that of the Esordienti of the second. The first year has not been awarded.

The intense day of Foen, which saw 227 young cyclists compete, marked the restart of youth cycling in the province in this 2021. After yesterday’s races, Uc Foen will propose other events: on 7 August the Della Bianca memorial for the Youth category in Rasai di Seren, on 5 September the Giro della Vallata Feltrina for the Juniores category (the title of provincial champion is up for grabs) and the City of Cesiomaggiore Trophy for Open Women.
Organizational commitments also await GS Fonzaso: on 22 August the 42nd edition of the De Bacco Trophy – Massaro memorial in Seren del Grappa, which will be valid for the provincial Allievi championship, on 29 August in Fonzaso a day dedicated to the Giovanissimi and Esordienti categories . –
