Olympics, the star on the platform and on social media is Alexandra Agiugiurculese: the final is her goal

UDINE. A star Olympics. This is what we all wish for the blue “queen” of rhyming gymnastics Alexandra Agiurgiuculese who in Tokyo will represent Udine and Friuli, the land that welcomed her and adopted her when she arrived as a child from Romania. A star, the twenty-year-old Alexandra is already one, thanks to the over 73 thousand followers who follow her on Instagram; no one is as loved on social media as she is, not even the unbeatable Russian twins Dina and Arina Averina, not even her great friend, the Israeli Linoy Ashram and not even the “different twin” in blue Milena Baldassarri. Closed in the bubble, also social, of “Olympic silence”, Alex is working hard in Desio with the aim of shaking off the tensions and insecurities of the last few months and giving everything to aim for the final. Participation in the Games which, only at the beginning of 2020, was absolutely obvious, in recent months, has in fact turned into a real thriller.

Let’s go back in time. The two Olympic passes (not nominal but by country) had been won by Alex and Milena at the 2019 World Championships, a historic result for a discipline that had never had such a strong pair of individualists. Then a series of circumstances turned the dream into a nightmare. First there was the postponement of the Games then, in January, Alexandra contracted a heavy form of Covid that stopped her for forty days, an eternity. At the resumption, the very young Sofia Raffaeli appeared on the international stage as well. Thanks to Alex’s absence, she had the opportunity to show her talent, putting some doubts, regarding the Olympic passes, to the technical director Emanuela Maccarani. With three names for two places, the fight has become fierce and psychologically heavy.

Alex has lost some certainty and, after the excellent return of Baku (gold medal for the ball in the World Cup) has not managed to shine either in the European Championships or in the absolute. In the end, the dt Maccarani decided to bring the two most experienced girls to the Games and now everything is in the hands of the Air Force pilot. The four exercises (ball, hoop, clubs and ribbon) have already convinced the international jury on several occasions who appreciated both the technical difficulties and the great expressiveness of Alex. In the sights of the Asu gymnast there is the final, which is accessed by the top ten classified in the all-around qualification: it will therefore be important to do well in all equipment, also considering that there are no specialty medals. Alex has already demonstrated, with sixth place in the Baku World Cup roundabout in 2019, that he has what it takes to play with the best. Alex will fly to Japan on July 30th. ,169>
