The Paralympic cross-country skiing middle distance competition held on the same day consisted of 6 categories of men’s, women’s free technical standing, free technical visual impairment, and sitting, resulting in 6 gold medals. In the men’s middle distance free technique (standing group) competition, Chinese athlete Wang Chenyang, the “armless trapeze” who has participated in the PyeongChang Winter Paralympics, won the gold medal, and Cai Jiayun won the bronze medal.
Wang Chenyang, a 20-year-old from Shijiazhuang, Hebei, lost both arms due to an accidental electric shock at the age of 11. In the winter of 2015, he became the first batch of disabled cross-country skiers in Hebei Province. In 2018, 16-year-old Wang Chenyang participated in the PyeongChang Winter Paralympics, where he placed 11th in the Paralympic cross-country skiing men’s 20km freestyle stance competition.
Today, four years later, Wang Chenyang stood on the top podium of the Beijing Winter Paralympics. “Today is my happiest day, and my Winter Paralympic journey is complete.”
In the subsequent Paralympic cross-country skiing men’s middle distance (seated group) competition, 35-year-old Chinese veteran Mao Zhongwu took a shot and won his first gold medal in this Winter Paralympic Games. Another Chinese athlete, Zheng Peng won the silver medal.
Previously, Mao Zhongwu had won 2 silver medals in this Winter Paralympics. Winning the personal first gold has become his primary goal in this game. Before the game, Mao Zhongwu deliberately changed into short-sleeved sportswear, intending to go into battle easily and give it a shot. In the end, he led the way and won the championship.
In the last Paralympic cross-country skiing women’s middle distance (seated group) competition of the day, the “double champion” Yang Hongqiong of the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games was suppressed by the American player Oksana Masters until the 3.5 kilometers timed. At this point, Yang Hongqiong achieved transcendence, maintained the advantage to the end, and successfully promoted to the “Triple Crown”. Another Chinese player, Ma Jing, won the bronze medal.

It is worth mentioning that in the Paralympic cross-country skiing women’s middle distance free technical (visually impaired group) competition that day, Chinese athlete Wang Yue won the silver medal, once again fulfilling her wish to “let the world see”.
