The Paralympic sport in Pavia is preparing to celebrate a new record: six athletes will participate in the Tokyo Paralympics. And it’s not over yet.

Paolo Cecchetto and Fabrizio Cornegliani earned the call-up to last week’s world championships held in Cascais, Portugal. «It was a triumph for my club – smiles Ercole Spada – Paolo Cecchetto won the gold medal on the first day of competitions with Team Relay, the relay decided with coach Mario Valentini, on the second day the individual gold in the time trial at almost 40 km / h on average, trimming three minutes per second and on the third day he finished fifth in the line test, beaten in the sprint only by younger opponents. Cornegliani dominated the time trial and the road. We are also celebrating Svetlana Moshkovich’s silver medal in the time trial with Russia, while in the road race she finished fourth. These results, which are worth the call for the Games for all three, I dedicate them to my one-year-old nephew Sirio, who I hope will be able to take up my baton and continue the work of Team Equa ».
At the Paralympics in Rio Ercole Spada had three athletes: Paolo Cecchetto who won gold with Team Relay, Igor Dementiev who won two golds on the track and Moshkovich, silver. “There are also three minimums this year – Spada points out – then let’s see what will happen, because there is still a pass that Coach Valentini has to assign. I am satisfied with the result of the World Cup in Portugal, it means we are working well ».
Next week Cecchetto and Cornegliani will go to camp in Livigno for two weeks. «It is a commitment of our club – Spada underlines – they will come down only to compete in Prato on Sunday 11 July in the Italian time trial championships. Then they will return to Livigno, this time with the national team. From there they will go directly to Japan for the Games ».
Twenty-three year old Monica Boggioni has earned the Games by climbing six times on the continental podium and winning four golds. In Tokyo he will do 5 races in addition to the relays. Monica today will be part of the blue delegation who will be present in Rome at the delivery of the tricolor to Federico Morlacchi, who with Bebe Vio will be the standard-bearer at the Paralympic Games.
