They participated with great emotion in the opening ceremony, they cleared the time zone and, after five days of training and today’s official practice shots, they are ready to go to the shooting line of the Yumenoshima Park Archery Field in Tokyo for the 72 arrows of ranking round. For the 8 Italian archers competing it will be an important day because, based on their qualifying results, we will know at the end of tomorrow the composition of the scoreboards of the individual and mixed team direct matches.

42 Nations are represented in Tokyo, 79 male archers and 60 female athletes, for a total of 139 archers distributed as follows: 31 in the male recurve, 24 in the female recurve, 36 in the men’s compound and 24 in the women’s compound, 12 in men’s W1 and 12 in women’s W1.

Italy will take the field in the recurvo with the multiple champion Elisabetta Mijno (Fiamme Azzurre), together with the rookies Enza Petrilli (Asd Aida) and Stefano Travisani (Fiamme Azzurre). In the compound there will be 4 blue standard bearers: Eleonora Sarti (Fiamme Azzurre) who has already competed in Rio 2016 with the newcomer Maria Andrea Virgilio (Dyamond Archery Palermo), while in the men’s there will be Matteo Bonacina (Arcieri delle Alpi) and Paolo Cancelli (Archers dlf Voghera). In W1 the young Asia Pellizzari (Arcieri del Castello) will defend the tricolor. Italy will compete in the individual challenges of the three categories provided (Ricurvo Open, Compound Open, W1), with the exception of the men’s W1 and the W1 mixed team. In fact, starting from Rio 2016, men’s or women’s team competitions are no longer foreseen, replaced by the mixed team competition.

Following the Azzurri, the coach Willy Fuchsova, the coaches Stefano Mazzi, Antonio Tosco and Fabio Fuchsova, as well as the physiotherapist Chiara Barbi are present on site. Italy is represented in Tokyo, as well as by the President FITARCO Mario Scarzella who, after the successes at the Olympics, returned to Japan today and will be present as Deputy Vice President of World Archery, also with two referees: Martino Miani and Andrea Bortot in the role of Director of Shooting.

After the training shots and the “familiarization” on the field of the preliminary and final rounds of the last few days, tomorrow the Azzurri will go to the shooting line of the Yumenoshima Park Archery Field for the 72 ranking round arrows, which will define the scoreboards of the individual direct matches and mixed teams. The 32nd and 16th finals of the men’s compound will be held on Saturday 28 August (starting at 9 am in Tokyo, 2 am in Italy). From 10.30 am (Italian time) the preliminary rounds and the finals of the mixed team W1 will take place, a race in which Italy will not take part, not having qualified a male athlete in this category. Sunday 29th August during the Italian night the 16th of the women’s compound will be played and then the eighths of the mixed team compound. Then, from 10.30 am in the Italian morning until about 2.00 pm, the mixed compound challenges will be played from the quarters to the matches for bronze and gold.

The preliminary rounds of the women’s compound will take place on Monday 30 August from the round of 16, starting at 2.00 am in Italy, up to the matches for the podium that will begin at 6.20 in the morning, while in the afternoon in Tokyo the eliminations and finals of the men’s W1 will be played. , a match in which there will be no Azzurri on the shooting line. On Tuesday 31 August, always from 2.00 am until 6.20 am in Italy, the preliminary and finals of the men’s compound will be played, which will be followed from 10.30 am to 2.00 pm by the preliminary and finals of the women’s W1.

Wednesday 1 September there will be a day off and, on Thursday 2 September, the first elimination rounds of the female recurvo (16th and eighth) will be back on the field in the Italian night, while from 10.30 to 12.30 the challenges of the quarter-finals up to the matches. for the podium. Friday 3 September, it will be the turn of the men’s recurvo in the Italian night with the 16th finals, while from 10.30 am Italian the round of 16 will begin and it will go on until the bronze and gold finals which will end at about 14.30. On Saturday 4 September the closing of the archery competitions includes the round of 16 of the recurvo mixed team on the Italian night and, from 10.30 to about 13.15, the quarterfinals will be played up to the matches for the medals of the mixed team recurvo.
