The new paternity leave

Therefore, the new paternity leave, mandatory and lasting ten working days, usable by the working father in the time span ranging from the two months preceding to the five following the birth, is fully operational, both in the case of birth and perinatal death of the baby. It is an autonomous and distinct right belonging to the working fatheralongside the so-called alternative paternity leave, which is only due in the event of death, serious illness or abandonment of the child by the mother.

Leave for the single parent

The overall duration of leave due to the single parent has been increased from ten to eleven months, with a view to a positive action that will meet single-parent families.

Nine months’ allowance

The level of the allowance relating to periods of leave is 30% of the salary, in the measure of three months for each parent, for a total overall period of six months. To it is added a further period of three months, transferable between parents and usable alternatively between them, to which an allowance equal to 30% of the salary is also connected. Therefore, without prejudice to the maximum limits of parental leave that can be used by parents, the months of parental leave covered by allowances have increased from six to nine in total. The allowance payable to parents, alternatively between them, for the period of extension of up to three years of parental leave taken for the severely disabled child, is 30%.

Leave for children up to 12 years

The age of the child is increased from six to twelve years and the parents, including adoptive and foster parents, can take advantage of parental leave, compensated within the terms indicated.

Maternity allowance also for self-employed women

The maternity allowance was also extended respectively for self-employed workers and freelancers, also for any periods of early abstention due to pregnancy at risk.

The second provision launched yesterday establishes new minimum safeguards to ensure that all workers, including those who have non-standard contracts (continuous collaboration relationships organized by the client also through platforms, occasional service contract, coordinated and continuous collaboration contract, etc.) , benefit from greater predictability and clarity in terms of transparency of information on the employment relationship and working conditions.
