The fact that the long-awaited project of a European super league could become reality was in general expectations and fears. But no one thought it could be launched so soon. Especially after the repeated assurances by the splinters that the matter was still under study and that rumors were mere rumors that the implementation of the project was imminent.
The official proclamation of the birth of the Super League by the twelve representatives of the football plutocracy triggered the immediate and sensational reaction of Uefa and Fifa who had previously smelled the crime by showing their intention to react in a very decisive way.
In general, it is natural to consider out of place the position of the big clubs that want to manage top football in order to derive particular economic advantages, creating the garden of the rich in which to compare only with their peers, avoiding the annoyance of having to compete with opponents of lesser prestige. From the rich comes the assurance that, in any case, thanks to the higher revenues deriving from the new format, it will be possible to distribute solidarity contributions even to excluded companies, to a greater extent than what they can derive from the current situation.
It is still not known if and especially when this new arrangement will be implemented, with the teams, at least the Italians – Juve, Milan, Inter – who have reaffirmed their willingness to participate in the Italian championship and in the current cups until the departure of the Super League, with the small detail that Uefa and Fifa have already said that the players of the teams involved in the new competition will no longer be able to play the internal championships or respond to the calls of their respective national teams. Situation, as can be guessed, explosive with implications also of a criminal nature for damage caused and huge amounts at stake.
Always convinced that too much money has deeply affected football in its most attractive aspects, I am naturally impressed in a negative way by this further climb towards new sources of livelihood by the top clubs. In any case, I believe that this way of excluding from the games that count the realities considered minor only because they are less rich, even if perhaps with an eminent historical and sporting heritage, is offensive. Not to mention that, for one story or another, not least the impact of the pandemic and empty stadiums, can generate a certain disaffection towards top football, which certainly with its voracious hunger for money does not generate sympathy. Passion can also fade if the romantic values of the past are no longer recognized in football. And then this inexhaustible desire to always find new loans also and above all generates new debts. A nonsense. –
