Basketball Serie B. The director born in 1986 will be one of the cornerstones of the team: the feeling with Corral, his partner in Omegna
he leader
From the playoffs promotion with Rimini at the helm of Omnia Pavia. Alex Simoncelli will be the new playsta of the Pavia team for the next ambitious season. Simoncelli, 36, was driving Tortona in A2 in 2016, before moving to Milan, then to Omegna and then Rimini but always leading teams with high expectations. The first exam for him will be his Super Cup debut in mid-September.
“It will be the first official match of 2021-22, we will go on the pitch to win even if during the preparation the workloads will have their importance – underlines Simoncelli – Crema is a tough team, well trained by Ghizzinardi I know”. Simoncelli will remain on vacation in Val Gardena with his wife and two children until the end of July, then return home to Bergamo. «Every change brings with it a dose of curiosity – explains the playmaker – I want to meet my new teammates on the pitch. We have high expectations and concrete possibilities to do well ». Simoncelli is convinced, in fact, that Pavia is a good team: «All the roles are covered and all the players can play in different roles. Plus a nice mix of experience, youth, athleticism, physicality, talented players and shooters who can open the field. We will have to work to find amalgam and balance, but I am convinced that very good things can come out ».
The supporting axis
The backbone of the future Omnia is made up of the play Simoncelli and the Corral center, two who know each other because they played together, as well as having experience to sell. «A good starting point – comments Alex – Corral and I know each other on and off the pitch. We played together in Omegna reaching the final promotion, so we both know what we want and what we can do. Clearly we have to enter into a context with other players that I also know from having played against us, never together. There will be work to do, but I’m too curious to start training. I am convinced you can make the ball run a lot, there are players who can go into transition, steal baskets without always playing against the defense and this simplifies things. The long package is a certainty, there are outsiders who can play even four, such as Torgano and Sgobba who, however, can hurt from the bow as well as having a solid element like D’Alessandro. There are no players that the opponents can name, including a young player like Calzavara ».
Everything suggests that next year the public, albeit with limitations, will be able to return to the arenas. «“ There is a great desire for normality – closes Simoncelli – last season with Rimini we won the quarter-finals then Covid infected us and we went out in the semifinal without playing. I am convinced that the Pavia public will have something to enjoy ». –
