Great performance by the Tai di Cadore climber who surrenders only in a sprint to the Russian Syritsa

SALIZZOLE BLONDES

Pedal, and how if pedaling, Andrea Pietrobon. And he has courage. After the eighth place obtained in two classics of absolute prestige such as the Piva Trophy and the Giro del Belvedere, yesterday the Tai di Cadore climber nearly won at Vicenza – Bionde, another classic, now in its 77th edition.

In 207 Under 23 they started from the splendid medieval village of Soave, on a day characterized by rain, wind and winter temperatures.

Ready to go and after a few kilometers the Veronese race is decided, precisely on the input of Pietrobon, by the action of a quartet that takes advantage of the only ascent of the day to take off: with Pietrobon (Cycling team Friuli) there are the Veronese Samuele Carpene (General Store), the Bolognese Edoardo Ferri (Petroli Firenze) and the Russian Gleb Syritsa. The four rode together, reaching Bionde di Salizzole with a 3’30 “advantage over the rest of the group.

It seemed the usual action destined to go out during the final eight laps and, instead, about thirty kilometers from the finish, the Russian national team and Pietrobon relaunched the action resisting until the last moment the return of the group. The final two smiled at Gleb Syritsa (already winner here in 2019) who had no problems adjusting the adventure companion to the sprint.

«The initial climb was the only opportunity I had to do something in a race intended for sprinters», explains Pietrobon, who is at ease with bad weather. “So, I looked for force action and managed to take a quartet away. Then, around halfway through the race, I was left alone with Syritsa, with whom I went along with one another. At the two kilometers I let him, who is a pure sprinter, take the lead and launch the sprint. For me there was little to do: he demolished me », Pietrobon admits. «Logically, I’m not satisfied because I want to win. But I am still satisfied with my race and my season for how it went so far. Now I look forward to next Sunday, at the San Vendemiano race, then I should run Strade Bianche and Giro di Romagna. Later I will spend a period of high ground to prepare for the Giro d’Italia ».

«It was an excellent performance from Andrea, who had already performed very well at the Piva and the Belvedere», comments the sporting director of the Cycling team Friuli, Renzo Boscolo. «We are working with other goals but the boy was very good at being ready now. Let’s now try to better manage this excellent condition. We have a two-year project on him and we are respecting all the stages. He is growing a lot, he is a valuable boy ».

Order of arrival Vicenza – Bionde: 1. Gleb Syritsa (Russia) 163 km in 3h37’45 “at an average of 45.432 km / h; 2. Andrea Pietrobon (Cycling Team Friuli); 3. Davide Boscaro (Colpack Ballan) at 20”; 4.
