Milan, November 2, 2021 – Michel platini e Joseph blatter have been accused of fraud by the Public Prosecutor of the Helvetic Confederation (MPC), according to which the former president of the Uefa allegedly received an illegal payment of two million francs from the Fifa. “Blatter is charged with the crime of fraud, possibly of embezzlement, subordinately of unfaithful administration and falsification of documents – reads the official note released by the Ministry – Platini instead is accused of fraud, possibly of concurrence in embezzlement, subject to concurrence in unfaithful administration, in particular in the form of complicity, as well as falsification of documents “.
The facts
The facts date back to the period between 1998 and 2002, when Platini collaborated with the then president of FIFA, Blatter, as a consultant. “In 1999, an annual fee of CHF 300,000 was agreed for this consulting activity in a written contract, signed by both Blatter and Platini. The latter invoiced all the agreed fees, which were paid to him in full by Fifa – the press release continues – More than eight years after the termination of his consultancy activity, Platini has asserted a credit of CHF 2 million. With the help of Blatter, at the beginning of 2011 a corresponding payment was made by Fifa to Platini. The evidence gathered by the MPC reinforced the suspicion that the payment to Platini was made without a legal basis. This payment affected Fifa’s assets and illegally enriched Platini. The MPC – concludes the note – will present its conclusions in occasion of the hearing before the Federal Criminal Court (CFI) “.
