Pordenone and Diaw opponents in Lignano: from the play-off dream to the salvation challenge

by admin

On January 16, the attacker’s last match in neroverde at Teghil returns with Vicenza last in the standings on Sunday

PORDENONE. A little over nine months have passed, but that January 16th at Teghil is much further away than it seems. Then both were in peak form: he had just scored the tenth goal in 18 games, the team had beaten Venice (2-0) and had entered the play-off zone for the first time this season. They seemed destined to grow up together, but they broke up shortly after. And they haven’t been the same since. Davide Diaw – with his Vicenza – and Pordenone meet on Sunday at Teghil for the first time as opponents and both will try to recover.

They did not think they would fall that way, at the bottom of the Serie B rankings, when the deal of the year was completed on January 29th. The center forward from Udine went to Monza for a figure of around 4 million euros. A transfer that, from an economic point of view, was perfect for both. The green lizards, a few months after the purchase from the Citadel, recorded a capital gain of almost two million euros, the player signed a 3 and a half year contract at very advantageous figures. Not only that: at the age of 29, after having restarted from the Excellence, he landed at none other than the court of Berlusconi and Galliani to play for the Serie A. And Pordenone, even, a few days later won 3-1 in Ferrara and seemed destined to stay in the play-off area. The story, however, took a decidedly unexpected turn for both. Diaw, in a team already full of strikers, was no longer the protagonist as among the green lizards. The coach, Cristian Brocchi, who has recently trained him in Vicenza, used a module (4-3-3) in which he could not be incisive due to technical characteristics. He had exploded with the 4-3-1-2, “sewn” (also in Cittadella) on him in the name of the restarts. He only made one goal, at Cosenza’s home on May 7th. The neroverdi, on the other hand, rushed to the point of risking relegation to Serie C. The decisive factor, in April, was the arrival on the bench of Maurizio Domizzi from the Primavera in place of Attilio Tesser and the explosion in the goal area of Patrick Ciurria, who then passed too. at Monza (with which he has not yet scored …).

Last summer, for both, a swipe in the towel to cancel the last difficult months. Diaw decided to go on loan to Vicenza, after being also sought by Pordenone; Mauro Lovisa’s club chose to rely on Massimo Paci as a coach, set up a new form (4-4-2) and decided to start again towards a peaceful salvation. After six days of the championship, however, both are in trouble. The center forward is still dry on goals and returned last Sunday after a physical problem that kept him away from the fields for two games. Look for the first victory, just like Pordenone, which as a team argues with the goal. Two centers have been created so far, one of which was rigorous. That separation had been convenient for both of us, it is useless to hide it. However, they thought they were living very different months. They dreamed of Serie A, they find themselves fighting not to feed the nightmare Serie C they thought – undoubtedly – to see each other again in a different context. –
