Power boating returns to Viverone, but there are those who protest

by admin

For the third consecutive year, after a six-year “stop”, on the weekend of September 4 and 5, motor boating returns to Lake Viverone and with it also the controversy by environmentalists who have always been concerned that the delicate ecosystem of the lake will be compromised from the racing cars of the water with their turns at 200 km / hour. Last year, environmentalists had organized a procession just before the sporting event to raise awareness of the risks of the sporting event on broods of lake birds. The response of the organizer, today as then, is not long in coming: «The powerboat race followed the entire authorization process foreseen for an event located in a special conservation area – specifies the organizer and former champion Fabrizio Bocca -. The site management plan foresees that sporting events can be organized in the months of August, September and October, periods in which nesting is limited or absent, subject to an evaluation of the impact that has always been regularly presented by our association ».

The troubled story of motor boating on Lake Viverone has distant roots. Suffice it to say that in 2009 an environmentalist complaint had put the organization and the then mayor in difficulty: then everything was resolved with nothing and the event was able to go on. A little bit, however, the inspiration was lost so much that for some years the water bolides did not touch the waters of the Viveronese lake. “For three years now we have started seeing these extraordinary boats speeding on the Viveronese lake – explains the organizer Roberto Caserio – and at each edition not only does the show improve, but the presences on the lake become interesting, especially in a difficult period like this characterized by the pandemic ». In this sense, tourism smiles: in a summer in which Viverone accused the absence of foreign presences due to anti-Covid limitations, this event has already sold out in hotels. “Formula 4 and Formula 2 tests will take place on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5, as well as the Italian junior championship – concludes Caserio – for a total of 20 crews”.
