Premier’s historian on Edson: “he could be a bargain”

The Mexican midfielder Edson Alvarez has received high praise and recognition in English football after his standout performance against Everton. Legendary Premier League top scorer Alan Shearer included Alvarez in his Matchday 27 XI, highlighting the Mexican’s impressive display and last-minute goal in West Ham’s 3-1 victory over Everton.

Shearer commented that Alvarez’s performance could be a “bargain” for West Ham, considering the level of play he has shown since joining the club from Ajax. This victory also saw West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola make it into Shearer’s ideal eleven for the second week in a row, thanks to a magnificent penalty save and eight other crucial stops.

Alvarez, who scored his first Premier League goal in the Everton match, is enjoying his debut season in the English top-flight with West Ham. The team currently sits in seventh place in the Premier League standings after 27 matches, with 42 points from 12 wins, six draws, and nine losses.

Aside from Alvarez and Areola, Shearer’s Matchday 27 XI also includes players such as Ben White (Arsenal), Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool), and Phil Foden (Manchester City). The team is led by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, showcasing the diverse talent and contributions of individuals across various clubs in the league.
