VALDOBBIADENE. Prosecco Cycling and Veneto fly to Sweden: today and tomorrow a regional delegation, led by the mayor of Valdobbiadene Luciano Fregonese and the executive manager of Prosecco Cycling Massimo Stefani, will be guests of Vätternrundan, the most important cycling event in Northern Europe.

Motala, a town of 30 thousand inhabitants located 250 km from Stockholm, in the county of Östergötland, is the place of departure and arrival of this event born in 1966, which develops for 315 km along the shores of Lake Vättern and every year involves over twenty thousand cyclists from around fifty nations.

On May 1st, Prosecco Cycling and Veneto were guests in New York of the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, the most popular cycling tour in America. And from overseas, where the Venetian delegation was welcomed with all honors, the countdown has started for the World Cycling Monuments Meeting, the long-awaited convention on environmental sustainability which in the autumn, on the eve of Prosecco Cycling, will involve the organizers of the most important cycling events on the planet: from Ken Podziba (Bike New York) to David Bellairs (Cape Town Cycle Tour), from Hugh Brasher (Ride London) to Oskar Sundbland, CEO of the Swedish event who, after the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, wanted to host the Venetian delegation at the Vätternrundan.

The second stage of the march towards the World Cycling Monuments Meeting will thus be in Sweden, a nation that has made sustainability and respect for the environment a real lifestyle. Not only that: the trip to Motala will be an opportunity to promote the regional territory on the rich cycling market of Northern Europe. And, at the start of the Vätternrundan, there will be the now traditional toast with the spectacular giant chalice made by master Marco Varisco.

“The Veneto and the Prosecco hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene are candidates to become a destination for world cycling tourism thanks to the strong contribution of Prosecco Cycling, the key event of the amateur movement that in 18 years has made over 45 thousand enthusiasts ride through these hills from 35 Countries », comments the Regional Tourism Councilor Federico Caner.

«Environmental sustainability is an important issue, I would say fundamental, also for the future of our territory. It is a business card for tourists who will arrive in the Unesco hills and a necessary investment towards the planet and the new generations », adds the mayor of Valdobbiadene Luciano Fregonese.

“The more than 20 thousand participants in the Vätternrundan, ready to leave for the 315 km around Lake Vättern, will be the setting for a toast with Villa Sandi’s Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg that will involve the Swedish authorities and Italian guests – explains the general manager of Prosecco Cycling, Massimo Stefani – it will be a great moment of promotion for the Veneto and our hills and an opportunity to strengthen the relationship with the Swedish organizers in viis of the World Cycling Monuments Meeting, an event attended by the largest organizers in the world and which is registering the interest of commercial partners who are particularly sensitive to environmental issues. Thanks to our technicians and professionals, and with the collaboration of the agronomist Paolo Pagnani, we are preparing the memorandum of understanding on environmental sustainability which next October will be endorsed by the managers and organizers of the most participated and important cycling events in the world “.
