Rebecca Bettarini: who is the Italian who married the last heir of the Tsar – Foreign

St. Petersburg, October 1, 2021 – The heir to the Tsarist throne, the Grand Duke George Mikhailovich Romanov, he has married today the Italian Rebecca Bettarini in a sumptuous ceremony inside St. Isaac’s Cathedral in St. Petersburg, Russia. This is the first marriage of a member of the Romanov dynasty on Russian soil in more than a century.

Rebecca Virginia Bettarini she is the daughter of the Italian ambassador to Belgium, Roberto Bettarini. She was a writer and lobbyist, and now heads the Russian Imperial Foundation. To respect the Russian imperial tradition, Bettarini converted to the Orthodox faith last year and took the name of Victoria Romanovna.

George Mikhailovich Romanov was born in Madrid to the Grand Duchess Maria Romanova and by the Prussian prince Francis William of Hohenzollern. He spent most of his life in Spain and France, and first visited Russia in 1992 with his grandfather the Grand Duke Vladimir Kirillovich. Her mother Maria Romanova is the granddaughter of Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich, a first cousin of Nicholas II who fled Russia during the revolution and declared himself emperor in exile. The royal scion has to date worked in the European Parliament and the European Commission and has been an advisor to the director of the Russian mining giant Norilsk Nickel.
