The Agordino remains the summer home of Umana Reyer Venezia. The male and female basketball champions have once again chosen the Agordo mountains for their summer retreat (it should be held in the last week of August).
But, after almost a decade, they will leave their usual destination, Alleghe, to move to Falcade.
«We worked hard to keep them here, as close as possible, and Falcade proved to be the optimal solution», explains Michele De Toni, president of the Alleghe Caprile Tourist Operators consortium, «among other things it is equipped with a gym suitable for needs. In the past we had already considered the possibility of hosting the men’s team in Alleghe and the women’s team in Falcade. But perhaps there was not yet that harmony that we have now finally found ».
What matters is that Venetian society has once again chosen Agordino.
«Reyer has always told us that here in Agordino she feels at home», continues Michele De Toni, «and that she always wanted to continue her summer retreat here. Thus, even speaking and working together with the mayor of Falcade, Michele Costa, we were able to find this solution. But we certainly do not stop at this summer. Our wish is that Reyer will continue to come here in the future too ».
Alleghe is still ready to lend a hand. Although Caprile will no longer welcome the Venice basketball players, the mayor Danilo De Toni is ready to do his part, if needed, because “Reyer is an important reality, an international team, and it is in the interest of everyone who keeps coming here in the summer. I have always maintained that Agordino must move and work as a single entity, in synergy, collaborating at three hundred and sixty degrees. If we need to help out, we will do our best ».
But what are the reasons that led Reyer to change her usual destination, Alleghe?
«The agreement had simply expired and it was not renewed», explains the mayor of Alleghe, «plus the fact that the gymnasium would have been used to organize some of the activities of our summer camp. Finally, it was difficult to make commitments, after Covid, and with energy efficiency works in sight. In any case, Reyer’s return to our mountains is excellent news for the whole of Agordino ».
